Thanks Nelly, he is very cute! I bought some prawns for him, so hopefully he'll take one tonight :)

what do they eat when fully grown like Nelly
not had any thing to do with this type of fish

can you get a better picture? looks far more like delhezi from those shots.
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/331376-poly-update/ the 3rd pic here is delhezi, does yours look like that.

Agreed.
Looks like a patternless Delhezi to me.
I have one that looked same when it was that small.

Ornatipinis have a very strong pattern and coloration as juveniles. Which usually changes as they get bigger.

Yeah see i never had mine until fully matured, the pictures are small so makes me think anyway,it could be ornate  what would i know

But to bif, i feed mine prawns which he loves, trying to get him on pellets aswell but at present prawn is all he will take,so freezers full of prawns,,,Took me two years to get my spiney eel onto frozen bloodworm, at first all he would eat was live..Uusally i can turn a fish within months, but this little eel to forever..

Cannot see the pic as i'm at work but ornates should be pretty easy to Id as theyre normally really colourfull when young.

Pretty sure he's an Ornate as he has 9 spines along his back, I read that Delhezi have 7-8.

Also he matches the description here: http://www.polypterus.info/p_ornatipinnis.htm He has gorgeous stripey fins

Yeah he is, he's lovely.

Hard to get a decent photo, but will try again tonight.

Yes see what you guys mean, these are what i see in my local fish shops

Wow

Zoomed in on one pic, and found another I took which shows his fins off better.

Does he have what looks like a cross on it's head?

It has Black markings towards the tail, that are normal on a Delhezi, and non existant on Ornates.
If it is an Ornate, at that size it should really look like the pics Nelly posted.
It COULD be a very very low grade Ornate...?

Here is a picture of my Patternless Delhezi: (Delhezi is the small one)

Here is a pic of the patternless Delhezi on it's own:

Look for a kind of cross marking on it's head.

i'm 100% its delhezi from those pics, look at the jaws of the ornates nelly posted, look at how much thicker the lips are than that of delhezi also the 2 have completely different patterns.

Looks l;ike a Delhzi to me as well, Ornate's are like the one's nelly#s posted, really colourfull when young.

Don't be disapointed with the Del though they're great fish

Had another look at him tonight, and yes I agree he is a Delhezi. He looks just like the 2nd photo gasmask posted.

I am annoyed they sold him as an ornate, however I do really like this little guy and plus side is they don't get as big!

Would I be able to get another Birchir in the future to go with him?
