I am planning to do a bichir community tank. I want to do a upper jaw bichir tank currently I have a cross river bichir and am planning on getting a senegal and gold dust to go along with them.

I know the tuegelsi does get a bigger than these to and grows faster but if they are similar size could it be done in a 6x3x3ft tank?

It really depends on the fish itself. I have about 10 Bichirs currently, but have been keeping them for about 15 years. A couple of mine are over 10 years old now.

I'd say if the Senegal isn't much smaller than the others to start with, you will be fine. I've only ever fed mine pellets and Prawns/Mussels. I also raise mine from being very young, so they don't know any better. But I can't remember the last time I lost a smaller fish to a Bichir. They simply show no interest anymore. I currently have a 5" senegal in my holding tank with all my Bichirs. The biggest in there is a tuegelsi that is around 16", an he hasn't touched it. Theres also a 14" Delhezi, 12" Ornate, an 2 at least 4 or 5 others around those sizes

It's still a chance. Think because all mine were raised from a small size with nothing but pellets an frozen food helps

it's risky... I would guess if they are raised together from a similar small size... but I had a 12 inch Delhezi, eat an 8 inch plus common pleco, that was not in that tank for food, with the pleco's large head, I don't know how it was even possible... mine eats mostly pellets, but definitely has hunting / killing instincts... if I put a dozen larger comet gold fish in the tank, mine will kill them all over night, even if it can't fit all of them in it's belly... mine is now a 14 inch beautiful fish, but a solitary fish, except for a few adult silver dollar fish that have become aware of what the bichir is capable of, and probably appear too vertical to eat???
