Sadly my little yellow Betta, Legolas died this afternoon. :-(
I'm completely heartbroken as I really thought he'd make it.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help, I really appreciate it. :flowers:
I really don't know what was wrong with the little fella, but we're wondering whether it could have been old age. i felt so helpless but I don't know think there was anything else I could have done.
Anyway, thanks again.
Angie

aw stang i feel so bad for you , we lost our first betta 6 months ago we had only had him 12 hours and i was heartbroken , you will always have a place in your heart for the little guy :-(

Stang1 so sorry bless him :rip:

Thanks for all you replies, it means a lot.
I'll miss the little fella even though I only had him for two weeks.
:rip: Legolas.

I'm so sorry. Sometimes just nothing helps. It happens sometimes with new Bettas--well with new fish. I bought a new honey boy a while back. I had him a couple of weeks, and he died. Then my 2 honey sisters that I had had over a year died. I felt such a failure.

Legolas, RIP!

.......and may he enjoy his eternal stay in the big fish tank in the sky.

My condolences on such a painful loss! I lost my first betta in the early fall and felt like I'd lost my best friend--Think maybe we were priviledged to have him for about a year. But I'd never had a little buddy like he was--except maybe in a dog or cat. I thought I'd never find another fish friend like him again.

So, the next betta we got was skittish--not so friendly--and at times, I couldn't believe my old betta was ever so animated and friendly. Then we lost this one when the automatic feeder we left for him while away for a week overfed him and probably gave him ammonia poisoning or something. (Note: Our other auto feeder we left for our mollies was fine so don't let this scare you out of auto feeders--they just need lots of testing and adjustment sometimes to work right).

Well, I waited another few months before I attempted to acquire a new Betta. (I've actually stopped offficially naming my fish because we kept losing mollies here and there for a while). I got quite hungry for my own betta from reading this forum and finally got another. Well, this one's a doll--just like the first one--friendly and perky and so funny and responsive to us. I couldn't believe it! So I'm trying to just appreciate him while he's here.

So I hug you and pray for you in your grief but wanted you to know that you can go on to "fall in love with another betta" like I did, when you're ready.

Be good to yourself. I'm sure your betta's up there in the big fishbowl in the sky playing with mine!

Love,
Wendy :flowers:  :( :( :(     :fish: :rip: :byebye:

Thanks so much Wendy.
It's a shame they are such beautiful fish with different personalities, that's why they are so easy to fall in love with!
I'm so glad you found another Betta, it's great getting one similar to one you've lost. When I lost my first Betta I was heartbroken, he was quirky and would come to see me whenever I was near his tank. I'd run my finger along it and he would follow it, so cute! I've never been able to find one with the same personality but I suppose thats why he was so special.
My blue Betta, Gandalf is a show off. He swims around showing off his beautiful colours and only comes to see me at feeding time.
My red Betta, Boromir is feisty. If you put your finger in the water he flares and nips at me.
And my purple/blue Betta is a timid little fella. Pops his head out first before braving it to come and see you, then he stays around to say hello.
Three completely different personalities and I love them all!

Thanks Bozza.
Sorry to hear about your little fella, I know how heartbreaking it is.
Don't feel bad, you obviously tried to do everything you could. It is hard to let them go but it's also hard to put them out of their misery.
My thoughts are with you.
