My Fully Cycled Tank

Hi Everyone

I'm really pleased to attach a picture of my tank and some of the guppies I managed to snap!

They are fast little blighters.... so I didn't get great shots! Hopefully I can add some more soon.....

hey Leanne, looks great. I hate to break it to you but those plants arn't aquatic. They need to be removed because they will rot and leach ammonia.

they are the synthetic ones?

Yeah - the red ferns are synthetic.

The plants at the back were sold to me by the LFS, they were in proper tanks along with loads of different types of plants.

Are you sure?

In the photo that one at the back with the leaf that looks all withered and seethrough is because I bought it like that, and I haven't taken it off yet. I can cut it off.

The plants have proper roots and one of the metal weight things on them.

one of the plants is Ophiopogon japonicus and the other is Chlorophytum comosum, both non aquatic. And yes i am sure.

Well, thank you for spotting it Ianho - I probably would have ended up with a nasty ammonia problem and would have wondered why!! I'll take them out this evening - Thanks again

I have been to most of the fish shops around me and they have sold me non-aquatic plants without me realising until they rot in my tank. It must be a common thing don't know how they are allowed to sell them to be honest

I believe these plants are 'semi-aquatic' ... I have had success with growing fountain grass with its roots in water and it's leaves out - but it's a bit of pain and has to be on a ledge or bogwood for that.

Non-aquatic plants get on my nerves!! You see so many sold as well.

Those fish are just toooo fast for your camera arent they!!!! I had that trouble trying to get pictures of mine!!! Tank looks fine to me although maybe its because i'm staring at a large glass of wine

Can anyone recommend some plants? That are easy to maintain for a beginner such as me??

i think some Anubias or Jave fern on bogwood or lava rock would look nice in that tank.

Amazon Swords look nice and are easy. Also small versions (crypts I thinl?) are good. I have some plants that look like grass in mine and those are doing well too.

Swap out those non-aquatic plants for some cryptocorynes, anubias or java fern =) easy to care for but make sure you have a little read before you get them as the anubis and java fern are fussy about how they are planted.
