My Fishless Cycling With A Twist!

better edit the puppy thing - - LOL
well we can't have it anyway.. we don't have space for the fella :hey:

anyway - -as promised - - here are the 2nd reading
after 24hrs of added "magic juice" BACTINETTES

Ammonia - 0.25
Nitrites - niL

Right then, add another 5ppm of ammonia and see what it does in 12 hours :)

hi, how about the pH, nitrATES?
cos at the moment i'm only reading ammonia and nitRITES..

and yup - i added 3mls of ammonia soon after my final test of the day
and hoping to have a good result within 12hrs. time - - i added it around 12noon

da*m - does this means i have to stay awake till midnight?

edit: BIG thanks again for guiding me on this one.. :friends:

Wouldnt worry too much about the ph but you can test it again if you wish.

Yes test for nitrAtes, you could then see if the nitrItes are being processed as the nitrAtes will rise.

Did you do an initial nitrAte test? Think you did, 5ppm wasnt it?

hmmm, very intresting thread, think il save this and see the progress :)

it's the TAP NitrATES and pH that i tested :(
not the tank water... and yep.. 5ppm for the nitRATES and 7.4pH

okey i'll test for them as well tonight - -

edit: @5teady - :thanks: very interesting results i'm getting indeed - -
i'm learning a lot as i go along - - i'll keep you guys posted.

;)

Yep but the tap nitrAtes would have been what was already in your tank water ;)

Yep got a way to go really, in a fishless cycle, by the end the bacteria can process both ammonia and nitrites in under 12 hours - so that is your aim.

:X

on the 6th day - that was YESTERDAY - August 9
i feel sorry to say that - i didn't conduct any test

i just raised the ammonia somwhere at 8AM to 5ppm
then neglect on testing it after 12 hrs- so it's been 24hrs
now since i add the ammonia - -

my bad really- - da*n JD and coke ----

so i'm about to do some tests now..

Day 7 - -

DSC00211.JPG

Ammonia - 0
NitrITE - 0

the whole week duration of my Fishless Experiment is quite successful IMO
the past couple of days of my TEST shows that - The filter could handle
5ppm ammonia and breaks it down to zero - in approx 12hrs.

it's only been a week though- and the duration of the real Fishless Cycle
must be 4-6weeks - so IMO Bactinettes help BIG TIME in the system - -

i added ammonia again today raising it back to 5ppm - (although i reckon it's fine to get the FISH now)
and i'm gonna do these method for the next 3-4 days and after that - we can say hello
to my first batch of fishes - - :hey:

but my water is gettin' cloudy abit--- so i don't know why - -
does it suggests for a water change?

-_-

The water going cloudy is fine, it will clear up shortly. All my fish are doing fine with no signs of stress after using nitryfying bacteria. In fact my water conditions are so good my Gouramis actually bred :)

Looking good and i keep my finges crossed.

that's good news from the gouramis mate---

actually -- i want to thank you for
introducing me to the product -
and the rest naming a few (minxfishy, ms.w)for the fishless bit

i told myself- what the h*ll ..-
there's no harm in tryin' NEW stuff

that's one reason why i took the risk of using it-
knowing that a lot PROs from here are against IT.

and all the results are here anyway--
i'm very happy to have good results so far...
to think that i'm only on a WEEK journey with
the cycle-- that's not even half of the whole cycle method-

:thanks:

i'm PROUD to say that i'm ONE HAPPY Bactinettes customer so far..

Well its worked for you and thats great. My stance has changed slightly after reading and reading and some more reading and listening to others views and opinions but i would use it again.

I think its important to understand the whole cycling process and some people find its easier to learn by example and therefore its a good idea, if you have the time and inclination to do the whole fishless cycle, but ita al about opinion and i dont want to get into a discussion about it here.
