Hi All

Just wanted to get your advice about planting my tank for the first time. I’m about to move house and have been told that this might be a good time to do something to my tank. So I was thinking putting in some...... a few plants.

I’ve been doing my research and now know that i need to make sure there’s enough light and that I will need to inject Co2 to help growth.

The help is with the type of plants and the Co2....

I was looking around the forum and came across the link for http://www.aquaticplants.eu.com and found that they do collections of plants. Was wondering if you thought these would be ok to start off with? and if there was anything I should be aware of with these plants?

FOREGROUND
5 DWARF CHAIN SWORD
2 DWARF SAGITTARIA
10 CARPETING SAG (5CM)
5 GLOSSOSTIGMA ELATINOIDES
2 FOUR LEAF CLOVER

MID-GROUND
5 CREEPING JENNY
5 BACOPA MONNIERA
5 TWISTED VALLIS
1 AMAZON SWORD
10 MIXED CRYPTS BEST IN STOCK
5 RED SPECIES
5 MYACCA SPECIES
1 NYMPHAEA STELLATA BULB
3 RORRIPPA SPECIES

BACKGROUND
5 HYGRO POLYSPERMA
5 CABOMBA CAROLINIANA
5 EGERIA DENSA
5 STRAIGHT VALLIS
5 LUDWIGIA SPECIES
2 WATER WISTERIA
3 GIANT VALLIS
5 BRONZE BACOPA
5 RED LUDWIGIA

With regards to the Co2 i was thinking of getting the Nutrafin Natural Plant System as it seems pretty straight forward to install and use. I didn’t really want to get into making my own Co2 system at the moment and don’t want spend a huge amount of money. So really just want anyone’s views or experiences with it. From what I’ve read it seems pretty good.

Thanks

Muzzy

Greenline are good.

Plant wise - how big is your tank? The Nutrafin CO2 system is better suited to smaller tanks unless you run larger bottles etc. You don't NEED CO2, and unless you are running much beyond 1.5wpg I would not worry about it.

Hi nry

I have a Rio 125 and at the moment it just has some fish a selection of decorations and a big piece of bogwood. The bogwood and the dec’s will probably be going so that will leave enough room to accommodate the plants.

Hi,

Ive used Greenline for my plants and have found them to be fantastic. Ordered on a Monday and they arrived by the Thursday so you deffo recomend.

As for C02, i have a planted tank which is 200L and is running 1.5wpg...plant growth is slow but constant so i would suggest that if you have low lighting you dont really need it....

Give it a go and see what happens....keep us updated.

Andy

Cool thanks!! :D i will do.

As far as the type of plants go do you think they will be ok?

Morning all.

Just another quick one...... I’ve noticed in a few posts that people use soil as well as gravel/sand. Is this something I will need to do as well? Or is it just better for the roots of the plants and not essential?

Thanks :D
