Hi folks,

I recently stumbled upon my old Juwel Rekord 60 in the loft.  This was my first tank some years ago, and I have, as I assume is the normal story, graduated from this 60, through a 240 to a 400 litre tank with the expected transition from mollies and neons to larger fish, in my case south american cichlids.  In the meantime there have always been the little tanks with bettas brightening up other rooms.

With a bit of room redevelopment I have found a little space for my Rekord 60 - but I'm mulling over what to put in it.  I'd rather go species than community, and with a large planted tank already set up I wouldn't mind a change, though I wouldn't say I am totally against another planted tank.  My thoughts so far have been scarlet badis, neolamprogus multifasciatus or caudopunctatus (though I am still in early research about those guys).

I guess it's the 'interesting small fish' question - something a bit different but doesn't need a 3 foot tank.  I would welcome any ideas - anything at all, just something interesting with a bit of character!

Cheers

You could always get some puffers! You could get one male dwarf puffer with a few females. I loved mine. They were so much fun to watch.

My vote would be for peacock gudgeons :) Would love to see pics of whatever you end up choosing!

It is worth noting that most diminutive species will require large amounts of plants. Gudgeons and puffers both prefer thick vegetation.

Oh, what's your pH and water hardness like?

I'll probably steer clear of puffers, I've just never really fancied them.  The gudgeons look nice though.  Another thought I had was kilifish, but again, more research required.  I'm fine with loads of plants, I've always had fairly well planted tanks but the light unit on the Rekord isn't too clever so it might be low light plants all the way.

It's been so long since I measured pH and hardness, once everything settled in the big tank I have been happily letting it get on with it, from memory pH around 7.8-8.2, and hard (can't remember the numbers).
