Finally Vinny and Cybil have done the deed!!! For the last four days i've been letting her out the chimney and putting her back and was seriously thinking of giving up. Then this morning it happened, cybil went straight to vinnies nest and started nudging him, next thing they were wrapping. The only trouble now is that although they didn't eat the eggs (well vinny picked off a few for a snack) neither of them picked them up. In the end rather than risk losing all of them to vinnies belly i syphoned most of the eggs up and they are now in a small coke bottle which is floating in a section of my tank ( there are about 60 eggs). Any advice now would be great as i didn't intend on tub raising. Cybil came out of it with no damage at all, have just given her a nice feed for her hard work! Unfortunately couldn't get any pics of them wrapping but will try and get a pic of the eggs later. :D

Great job!!! I hope mine go the same way as yours, second day letting her out and no action from mine yet...

The main thing with tub raising is to keep the water warm, clean and shallow. Lie the coke bottle on its side so the water is very shallow. When the fry hatch, they need to be close to the surface so they can fill their swim bladders. Fry that hatch lying on the bottom will never become free swimming (and will die and foul the water.) If the water is no more than an inch deep, it will be fine.

Thanks Laurafrog. I have noticed this morning that the eggs have developed a trasparent layer around them, is this normal or are they no good??

do you have a pic, the eggs should be white without film or jelly like layering

I will be able to post a pic as soon as my camera charges up, it probably wont be very good, ive got the worst digital camera in the world! They are still white but just have a sort of clear surround on them. I have already prepared myself for failure being that it was my first time.

If there are any that don't have this I'd separate them out into another container, because it sounds as though it MIGHT be fungus, I could be wrong though and it could be fine.

I know these are crap but they're the best i can get with my camera. The clear bits look like shells as some have come off a few of the eggs, it's really wierd :S

Well there's still no change in the eggs so i think they are no good, i'll keep an eye on them today and if there's no change by tonight i'll dispose of them and start conditioning a new pair

Were you always keeping the eggs in a container rather than in his nest? the eggs are prone to fungus due to condensation when kept in a tub

Can you get methylene blue? A few drops added to any tub raiser will stop the fungus from growing, I know some people who raise corydoras eggs in tubs with meth blue. The problem is that it usually contains other additives, often antibiotics which are teratogenic (so if you can't get it pure, don't bother.) Unfortunately sounds like that could be a bit of advice for next time... if they still haven't started developing they might be dead.

I wasn't planning on tub raising but vinny was eating the eggs he saw floating and wasn't attempting to put any in the nest so i thought i'd try and save some by putting them in the tub rather than leaving them on the bottom of the spawning tank. I think it was fungus, i've just flushed the eggs as they were slimy looking. I'm going to start conditioning cooper and hermoine so hopefully they will do better. Thanks for the replies x
