My First One

Perhaps I'll just rehome it, I think I'll just buy a 2 or 3 gallon tank. Now I see why they are always in a cup and not in a big tank. There is nothing compatible with them.

He would do better in a 5 gallon tank. You could include a small group of Corys and a small group of Tetras such as Neons, Cardinals, Glowlites, Head n Tail lites in his 5g tank.

Tetras need a minimum tank size of 10G so I wouldn't keep them in a 5G with a Betta.
Your Betta will be happier on his own in a 5G tank rather than a community tank. You could keep a few Pygmy Cories with him as they are bottom dwellers and he will more than likely ignore them.

Sorry but i would stay away from Tetras too, they are fin nippers no matter how big or small the group. If you want to add a small group of fish go for White Cloud Mountain minnow but then depending on your betta he might just eat them

every betta is different but you might be able to get away with a
cory
pleco
cherry barb, maby....
ghost shrimp,, as long as they are not too small for him to eat,, or them to eat him.
apple snail
mystry snail, although even my female bettas were nasty to my mystry snaills,, ate their antennas off,, then they died
i have also heard of a few odd cases of bettas getting pinched between the snail shell and the side of the tank, snail are really slow...
also snails are really heavy on the bio load,, so that means more poop and more water changes
