My First Ever Fishless Cycle

have no idea what to do but here are my results

dont not bother with nutrafin stuff it came with my roma 125 iv been goin 23 days and did not do a thing,
you need to but a bottle of ammonia, i bought from boots you need to add 5ppm, have a read of the fishless cycle method in the beginners section it tells you everything, what testing kit are you using?

first of all thanks for the quick reply! ill try and get some of that and this kit

the same as me alot of people use them on here,

start a log test 24hr to se how it changes

once you add 5ppm of ammonia you test every 24 hr when it reaches 0 top up to 5ppm and test again once it drops to 0 in 24hrs the test every 12hrs,

look in the mature media section and see if someone in your area is willing to donate

That would be spot on for you, how long has his tank been going?

just looked at the pics of your tank look good

what filter have you got the fluval U3, or fluval 205/305?

What filter has your dad got and what type of media foam,bio-max/bio-balls etc?



say you dad has got 2 ponges in his filter take 1. yake 1 of your sponges and replace it with your dad, this would give you a massive kick start to your cycle,

just looked and its only sponges mate? and about half the size of mine! any good

Yeah, take some of your dads and put in yours but you will need to replace your dads with new to keep his goin

dont take all of your dads otherwise he will have to start again, if he has got like 4 sponges take 1 and put it in yours,

but before you do i would buy some ammonia, boots 500ml bottle for £1.75

otherwise when the bacteria wont have anything to feed off

have you got fish in?

ok ill do that tomorrow when i get back from work and there is a big boot in a retail park near my place so ill drop by on my way home to and no i have no fish in yet i want to do this right as its cost me loads lol!

just keep you filter going, if you have got real plants have the light on for about 6 hours to start with,
coz i followed that fluval guide and did like 12 hours and all my plants went brown with algae

no real plants as I'm planning on keeping cichlids! they will eat them lol thanks for your help ill drop you a PM if i get stuck!

on another note someone from my work who keeps fish told me to drop the temp in the tank get 2 gold fish and keep them in for a month and then put them in my pond and get the fish i want! not to sure on that one really....

how cruel! fish are friends not food.... lol is it advised to do this as i have a pond that is over stocked with golf fish that have bread like madd?
