Some of you may know that i'm usually more focused on the planted tanks area of fish keeping. Well i've decided to try my hand at Cichlids for a change.

I know a Cichlid tank wont ever look as good as a fully planted and well designed aquascape, but it cant do me any harm to try new things.

Here's my pics..

So far they've been hinding in the small holes in the rocks and stuff, still busy cleaning up.

Looking good so far paulioo. I see you've finally switched the setup, and guess what, you don't need to cycle  Some fish store..it won't even take shrimp for free. Wish you luck in the tank, hopefully it will look just as good as your planted tank was.

:-( Oh man, so much greatness, gone!

So do you like your new fish? How are they entertainment wise? Ive never ept them myself either. Looking good.

The sand is just ordinary play sand and the rocks are 25KG worth of ocean rock.

So far I think all my shrimp are still alive, its a cherry shrimp by the way. More at home in a planted tank.

I'm loving the colours of the fish and they can swim through the smallest of cracks in the rocks. So far so good. Im liking the change

Paul can i ask if your ordered your ocean rock of ebay in a 25kg sac for £30. If so i got the same. And what is that fish in the second picture.

Well I keep angels which are new world cichlids and they are pretty entertaining and it looks cool how they can swim around and it looks like there fins aren't even moving. :hyper:

Yeah £30 from ebay, quite good value for money i think.

The fish in the second picture (blue fish) is called Pseudotropheus Socolofi, some of the pictures i found while researching the fish didn't do it any justice. I think it looks beatiful.

I was debating whether to get Pseudotropheus Acei or the Socolofi.. until i seen this picture.

They grow to around 4-5 inches and are supposedly the more milder of Mbuna.

Good job Paul. I must admit if I never leave the planted scene then I'd go with either Malawi or Tanganyikan cichlids, so much character and colour - almost "marine standard".

It must be a refereshing change to only have to concentrate on fish feeding, water changes and filter maintenance now. It's the fishes turn now to be the star - a "fish tank" in the true sense I suppose.

Will you get bored with the layout, or are the fish interesting enough to keep things the way they are? What's the deal on rearranging rock etc. with Mbuna? Does it upset their territories etc.

I wonder if you'll miss the green soon, can I see some Anubias or ferns in the pipeline?
