My First Cichlid Tank

You are sometimes suppost to move rock for this purpose so when you introduce new fish every other fish doesn't already its teritories and kill the new fish as they are the intruders. or something like that.

I think its a fair bet to say, that there will be a few plants in the tank in the very near future :)

My fish seem to be really shy at the moment. As soon as i go near the tank they all swim away and hide between the rocks, then after a minute or so they slowly start to creep back out. I dont think they like me

The fact that i now dont need to worry about fertising and trimming of plants, replanting glosso etc is a welcomed addition.

I'm also due to go away to Tanzania, Africa this summer to do a month long expedition learning survival skills and leadership skills etc. So at least now my family can look after the tank, with only water changes to do.

I might stick my head below the surface of a few lakes in Tanzania and try to spot these fish in their true habitat. Cant wait!!! Should also help my CV for when i graduate too.

They will learn to like you. On the first couple days I got my angels when I came up to the tank they would go towards the back but now I can't even get 4 feet away from the tank without them coming to the front trying to get my attention to feed them again.

Same here i go 4 feet near the tank and i get 14 cichlids coming at me like a wave. I tell my mates to put their finger in and they wont do it they think it really hurts(i told them the drew my blood when biting me)

i'll take the shrimp ;) :p

mucho agradable pescados, señor :hey:

What a beautiful tank Paul  . Must say I've been tempted by Malawis for a long time. But I don't have space for a new tank. I just can't bring myself to rehome my 50 gal tank of 3 yr old community tropical fish - and the only other suitable tank would be my planted.

While on holiday for this past month I actually thought I'd rip the whole thing apart if I return to a massive algae ball - but alas the tank looked fab after a month of no attention  - it must be some sign..... So I'm still doing the planted thing !

For now....... :shifty:

Well my little red cherry shrimp didn't last too long :-(

There was a whole lot of comotion in the tank and when i looked into the tank the little red cherry shrimp was halved in two.

It was inevitable in know, but quite sad.

My amano shrimp on the other hand are about the same size as the fish, so are coping ok for now.
