Desks can take a lot more than you'd think ;) My desk is absolutely falling appart and made out of simple chipboard ... yet, it's still holding my 55G without any problems. Hopefully it will stay this way :p

The albino tank sounds like a great idea! I might look into what albino options we have over here and try it out myself (my 40G is nearly empty, so). Good luck working it all out.

Calling it 'stupidly' small was not constructive. :p

Anyway, 57 litres is about 15 gallons so you do actualy have quite a few more options if you go with that. Like bujiweb said, you can get a pair of albino cherry barbs in there and there's always slightly larger tetras such as albino black phantoms that would work instead of neons if it's this size. Also, that makes it possible to keep a white molly along with whatever else - maybe make the molly a 'centerpiece' or whatever. :)

I've decided to hold off phoning around for the tanks in the freeads for now. I just found out that we're going to a large and (usually) very cheap pet shop on Sunday, so hopefully I can get a 10g+ 'starter kit' or similar there. In the meantime I'll start assembling all the other jazz. Eg, QT (I used the last one for another betta ), deco, maybe substrate, and anything else that looks interesting. I like the rock idea; I'm trying to aim for a creepy 'cave like' appearence. Ooh, I just though of something cool... I could try and find 'stalagmites', put some on the bottom and some stuck to the hood as stalagtites. What could I use? Maybe a discus spawning cone thing with the black substrate glued on with sealent. I'll have a look around on the net.

if you can get the larger tank and pull of the "stalagmites", then you should SO get the blind cave fish! they're ultra-creepy.

Yeah, but I've never seen them around here. I'd love to put them in though. LOL, I thought how creepy it would be to put an albino axelotl in... I WON'T!!! I'm not that stupid! So don't comment :) I might go to pets at home later. I'll try and get some substrate and see what fish they have. Not that I'd buy anything from there EVER, but they only stock bog standard fish. So if they have it, somewhere better should have it too.

I mean very common ones, like platies, guppies, common plecs etc. I also mean bog standard as in inbred to high heaven. No offense to the fish of course. I got some gravel, its very fine but I'm not sure if it will be too shap. How do you tell, and is there a cheap alternative to expensive black tahitan moon sand?

hrm, i know that for betta tanks a good test to see if any decorations might damage the tail is to run a nylon stocking over it and see if it tears or runs. :dunno: perhaps you could adopt that to a gravel test somehow...

Apparently all gravel is bad news for cories. So I might use it in another tank (ooh! Albino betta tank!) or use it under some black sand so I can get away with buying less. Depending on how much it ends at, there is a 2fter on ebay with everything for £20. Plus it comes with marine stuff, so hopefully I can flog that on for a bit. On third thoughts.... What if I ound out how much weight my floor could hold, tried to get a 3fter (ish) for my birthday, made the 15g into the albino tank and use my desk for... bettas! Or similar. I'll have to find out.
