Dont use floss. Bacteria doesnt get a chance to build up on it as you need to throw it away and put new in.
Using a part of your old sponge and cutting to size is the best way to go but dont use all of it as mentioned.
Once you have done this add the fish as your filter will need a source of ammonia to keep it going.
Irf your advice is good which is probably why no one said anything more.
Test your water regularly as you may get blips in your cycle still.
 
Fair point about the floss, black angel. However if you're like me and don't change the floss every time you clean, it might be OK? Not sure if Im doing the right thing though - maybe I should be chucking the old floss every time?

I would throw it away and replace.
If you have sponges in the filter then the white floss just helps trap the bigger bits of dirt.
