I'm planning on building a 135 gallon (6'x2'x18") plywood tank in the near future, and so far, this is my possibilities.
Option 1
South American Biotope
10 Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
15-20 Neon Tetras (These may be taken out, as the angelfish may decide to snack on them and put in my empty 33 gallon)
7-10 Emporer Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri)
2 Rams (Microgeophagus ramirezi)
2 Bristlenose Catfish (Ancistrus dolichopterus)
10 Bronze or Peppered Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus or Corydoras paleatus) (I will breed these myself)

Option 2
Piranha Species Tank
3-5 Red-Bellied Piranhas (Pyrocentrus nattereri) OR
5-7 Gery's Piranha (Serrasalmus geryi) OR
7-10 Black-Band Piranha (Serrasalmus cf. spilopleura)

Option 3
Lake Malawi Biotope (Mbuna)
5-10 Yellow Labs
5-10 Rusty Cichlids (Rusties)
suggestions needed for this option

Option 4
Community Tank
10 Angelfish
5 Clown Loaches
2 Rams
2 Murrays Rainbowfish
2 Turquoise Rainbowfish
other fish soon to be added to the list

Option 5
Oscar Species Tank
2 Oscars

If you have any other suggestions, or wish to add something, please do! Which would you most like in your home?

I like option 1 too, but I really like Clown Loaches, maybe option 1, minus the Neons, and add the Clown Loaches? But then it wouldn't be a biotope...
Sean

I wouldn't do option 2. I think that tank is way too small for a school of piranha.
The rest of the options sound great though.
Go with.... hmm.. #5

I like Oscars, but I don't know if I could handle having a tank that size and only 2 fish in it, lol.
Sean

i'd go for option one, but once some of the angelfish have paired off, i'd get rid of the other angels to avoid some aggression

Angelfish, Clown loaches and something like some rainbows or dwarf cichlids - rams etc?

That would be a really nice planted tank :)

Ben

I have some Rainbows currently, so I would probably add them to the Community option, going to edit now. And I can't seem to find any dwarf cichlids around here, only Rams, which are also now going into the Community option.

I like Option 1 as well. I don't know if you could keep that many angels in a tank, though. Also, neons are in the natural diet of angels. Maybe you could keep cardinals instead of neons? IDK if that would work... Anyway, those are just my thoughts. It'll be an awesome tank, whatever you decide to do with it. :)

Haha, well I never claimed to be a piranha expert. That's why my name's CatLover :p

I have been on an oscar kick lately, so that's why I say #5.
If it were my tank I would have many cories, plecos, and other fun catfish.

Hmm.. have you considered any oddballs?

Crap, I forgot to add my oddballs option. O well, if I had oddballs I would have 2-3 BGK and 1 Senegal Bichir.
