Well there definitely appears to be differences... and they are lovely :)

LOL was so busy looking at the pics I didn't read your description LOL

well im not sure lol.
i thought the 1st to be male and the 2nd to be female, but these are the ones that recently knocked seven bells out of each other so i came to the assumption they were both males! but at the same time im sure females fight just as much as males and even bonded pairs can fight and even kill each other, so they may still be male and female. most of the time they follow each other about and sit with each other. this also gave me the impression they were bonding.

jay i know about the fins and redness in females and the width of the jaws, all the jaws seem to be wide, the first big one has less red than the second but they both have bright blue fins, you cant tell in the pics as they loose the blue when they aint in their home!
and also the last small one has less red than the first two small ones, does this make it male and the other two female??? i dont know lol!

Dave

Females have more red on the body than males and are rounder in the belly. Males have iridescent blue colouration in the finnage and wider heads when mature. They also have an intense orange crescent around the caudal fin which females lack.

Found that description on seriouslyfish may help? - By my reckoning that would make 2 definite males (the last 2) and the rest females?

yeah, i know how to sex them as far as this goes, like the red in females, blue in males, higher dorsal in males, wider head in males but its not as easy as that.
take a good look at the last fish, 2nd to last picture, that is a smaller one, it has the brightest orange/red round the tail, indicating female? but has the least red to the flanks, indicating male?
ya see were im coming from???
i want someone to come along who knows their sh**t and just say thats female, thats male, thats male etc etc lol

Dave

reading that on seriously fish it is the males with the orange caudal...

where's nelly when we need him!

have a look on the snakeheads.org site - there are some pics of male and female side by side there.

he may come back, i know some liked the clubs, nothing wrong with that, but i need help! i believe thats what its all about!!
lol
yeah, its wierd some show signs of being male, but might be female, some look like females but might be males and a couple look like both so god knows what they are!!
id ask at snakeheadsuk but it takes about 2 months to get an answer over there!!
Dave

the first two wont get any bigger than they are now, but still find it hard to tell if the second one is female or not lol!
they are all exactly the same age, its funny how the first 2 are a good 2 inch bigger than the other 3!

Dave

well the width of head on the first 2 is similar and the last 2 are similar but the first 2 are different from the last 2.... if that makes any sense....

the first two pictures are the same fish, the 3rd and 4th picture is 1 fish, the 5th and 6th pictures is 1 fish, the 7th and 8th pictures are 1 fish and the ast 2 are one fish

the last 2 pics are of a small one, but compared to the other 2 small ones, it has far less red spots, so makes me think male.
the first 2 smaller ones (pics 5+6 and pics 7+8) have far more red so makes me think female!
im just getting more and more confused!!
