Hi there,

Thanks in advance.

I got home today and went to check on my fish, and one of my little blue gouramis, AKA "Three spotted Gouramis", has a big swollen up eye and around the edges of the eye its all red, (blood obviously), does anyone know what this fish could have done, and how do i fix it. Im pretty sure its not a disease. But im not sure as i havnt graduated with a phd in astrophysilogical marine biology......yet...

Please help me, iv already lost one of my gouramis, and im still unsure as to how he died, as i havnt found his body.

I recall a bacterial infection causing a swelling of the eye with a redness in the white parts caused by bursting of vessels due to the swelling, but I don't think it is "pop - eye" in full definition.... I treated with Gentamycin which was very expensive and only used once... adding about a pea sized amount in a standard 2ft tank... (maybe your chemist can make up a small amount for you rather than buying in bulk... it's going to be on the shelf for a long tome. Treatment is a once off.... and did not work for me, but I treated very late.. (according to a fish expert friend of mine)

In my case, it was a Black widow affected, so I do not think it is a gouramie specific disease....
I'm thus going to move this topic out to Fish emergencies to see if you get any help from there.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Can you issolate and use a bacterial med.
Could the fish have injured its eye on anything in the tank.
