when i gt home yesterday his mouth had turned white ide feed him in the morning andd he was fine but i tryed to feed him again and he couldnt open his mouth he was trying but jus couldnt i was going to go to the lfs to see wats wrong with him today but when i woke up he was dead
the stuth around his mouth whas white ut it looked like his mouth had turned white rater than somethink growing on it what could it be
i cant get good pics that you could see it in because broke my cam and my phone one is shocking

So sorry to hear about your boy. Sounds like he had mouth rot. You haven't had him long so he probably had it already.

:( yh i only got him saturday r.i.p
will i need to clean out the hole tank or will i be ok just to do a water change an add more

I should give the whole tank a really good clean but don't use any detergents. The bacteria which causes mouth rot is highly contagious so make sure it is scrubed really well with very hot water.

Here's a few things to look out for if you decide to get another Betta.

Deep, rich body colors

No visible ulcers, boils, or skin problems

No visible scars or wounds

Long and flowing, or short and erect fins; not fins that are ragged,
torn, missing, collapsed, or clamped close to the body

Flat, smooth scales, not protruding from the body

Well-rounded stomach, but no swelling in the abdominal area

Body of normal girth, neither bloated nor emaciated

Visible excreta (fish waste) that is dark, not colorless

Clear eyes, neither clouded nor protruding from the sockets

No visible external parasites, such as ich (small white dots) or velvet
(a dusty gold mist)

A healthy Betta will:

Swim horizontally, with its head neither elevated nor lowered

Swim without effort

Swim throughout the entire length of the aquarium, not lurk in cor-
ners or hide behind decorations

Breathe normally, not heave rapidly or gulp for air

out of the things to look out for the only thing wrong with it was its fins where ragged but it was in with hundreds of neon tetras ang looked of so i thought it would just of been them

If he was having his fins constantly nipped at by Tetras then he probably had some kind of infection set in. Add to that the stress of moving to another new tank. This will have lowered his immune system and left him open to other problems.

It's always tempting to resuce the one that looks worse off but then you need to be prepared that not all of them will make it.

i have a female with cloudy eyes, what could that be, i just noticed someone mentioned it before.

Thanks

Tom

It must be hard on you to have a loss in your hobby even since you only got him on saturday :rip:

Cloudy eye is normal a sign of poor water quality. Do the eyes seemed to protrude more as if they are popping out?

no, they are just like the other females i have, only cloudy, there was a little bit of nitrite in the water as i had to put a new filter in and it was while that was getting cycled, but quality is fine now no nitrite or amonia and very little nitrate.

Ok....you'll need to use a med such as Myxazin. That's very good at treating cloudy eye :good:
