I've been on here a while now, not been very active as until recently I've only had a 24 litre aquarium :(

Here's some pics of it's only residents, breeding pair of Kribensis with newly hatched fry :)

If things continue to go well with their growth then they'll be up for grabs soon ;)

And this is my new tank, a 240 litre Fluval Roma 240, it's been running since November the 11th (Sorry for the crap pics, the Christmas tree is just in front of the tank and it was turning dark, made it hard to get a good pic, you get the general idea though :)

and it's current residents are:

1 x large 3 spot Gourami (Very subdued due to previous bullying by the other 3 spot I bought at the same time, bully was returned to the shop) He's hard to get pics of, as soon as you approach the tank he disappears to the back in amongst the plants

2 x Pearl Gouramis

2 x Angel fish - The larger of the two was my cycle fish, very pretty looking thing, not sure if there's a name for his colourings? The other is quite obviously a black angel, I addes him later and he is smaller and younger but the pair of them get along great, always swimming about the tank together :)

1 x Red tail black shark

1 x Female Kribensis - Sister of the male who has just became a father, had to split them though as they initially paired off in my large tank and terrorised everything, seems fine on her own but I think I may put some females from the new litter in there with her at a later date for some company

1 x Black ghost knife fish (No pics yet)

1 x Fire Eel (Again, no pics yet)

2 x Red crabs - Only one pictured here, this one is much bigger than the other, his colours are also different, he has a bright red/orange shell whilst the ohter smaller one is more of a dark red/brown, this one is also an escape artist

Very nice kribs angels u got over ther. So are hte shrimps they are wonderful :D.

Fantastic tank, love that spotted angel as well.

However, those crabs are suffering unfortunately, they need lots of land to live on (as you have noticed they need to come out the water to breath). They also fare drastically better with some marine salt added to the water, in their current freshwater set-up, IME it's only a matter of time until they die of moulting complications. They are often sold for freshwater tanks, but seldom live more than a few months in freshwater without having moulting complications, especially if you have soft water.

This is a good site on the carbs, except IMO they prefer more land than water.

agree on the crabs absolutely loving the spotted angel tho i want it!!!

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I know where you're coming from with the crabs, I did initially have 4 but the two smaller ones died off fairly quickly and tbh I got the distinct impression from the behaviour of the larger crab that they needed the option to come out of the water :(

I've constructed a shelf which I've managed to slot into the wire clips at the top of the tank at the back, I fear the oter small crab may soon die off too as he's not as big and strong as the larger one, the large one uses the airlines and heater to make his way to the top, I have added aquarium salt, I'm not sure how frequently I should be adding though, every water change?

I have some more pics anyway, managed to snap Mr. Eel as he came out to do his usual "I'm hungry" dance :p

Wow, cool eel, what type is he? :D

It doenst matter, 'aquarium salt' does no good whatsoever for them (and IMO is a completely worthless addition to any tank unless used in high dosages for treating something like whitespot).

The crabs need marine aquarium salt, and in a higher dose than your other fish can handle.

Regular 'aquarium salt' is just sodium chloride, and doesn't contain any of the minerals that the crabs need for their shell when they moult.

Unless you can set up a small tank for them (the best option), I would pm boboboy on here about providing for your crabs, I think I remember him talking about having a tub above the waterline with marine salt mix in it for his crab :good:.

He's a fire Eel =)

I'll have to post some more pics of the Krib fry as they've grown quite substantially since the last pics I posted
