My Angelfish Wont Eat,plz Help!

Hello there,went to ma LFS last week to get myself an angelfish,which i did,on paying for my fish the owner of the shop asked me if i would be intrested in another angel fish for nothing,he went on saying a women who regulary popps in the shop had an angelfish which had out grown her 3ft tank,so i took her number and went up to have a look b4 i commited to taking the fish,i ended up taking the fish as i have a 4ft tank,the fish really is big but is really shy and has hardly eaten anything and ive had the fish for 6 days now,ive only seen the fish eat 3 flakes in them 6 days and 2 of the flakes were spat bak out,do angelfish prefer a different food or is this fish stuggling to settle/any advice would very grateful

What are your water parameters like? Your water may be different then what the fish came from. What other fish is there in the tank?

Try frozen Brine Shrimp.

Get a little cup (not plastic) or bowl. Put some of your tank water in it. Chunk out a little piece of frozen brine and set it in the water. Let it thaw a bit. Once the brine are not frozen any more, dump that water back in your tank.

If this does not work, try live brine or daphnia.

As with most animals, the smell of blood will often get them eating.

Try soaking your food in garlic. Or just don't feed your fish for a week. Soaking the food in garlic will help entice the fish into eating. I just used garlic gel caps and soaked the food in them, it also helps weaken parasites. The blackout won't hurt the fish, but it will also help them to eat, for ovbious reasons.

+one.Nearly always good to acclimate new fish slowly by drip acclimation or by slowly, adding water from your tank to the bag holding fish until water added is nearly double what the fish came in.Then dump half the water down the drain and repeat again.

Flake food can be nutritious enough for many fish but it is far from an ideal food. If your new angel has been getting a balanced diet of a variety of foods, it may not recognize the flake as food at all. Given a little time, it will figure it out but, in the meantime all of your fish would probably respond well to a variety of fresh and frozen foods along with some admixture of vegetarian foods. It is truly amazing what we really do not know about fish nutrition so it is best to use a variety of foods with all of your fish.
