Thought I'd done one of these already but obviously not lol

Started with my mate up town, he's got a tank so went looking round shops in town at fish, I'd just sold my car an decided I wanted a fish tank. Wanted one or a while but finally had the funds to comfortably get 1 fully set up

My dad told me to get a bow fronted tank as they look nicer, glad I listened (that's not a hole in my sock, it's just the light lol)

Went for black gravel and a black background not because other people said, I just thought the fish would look better with their colours against a black background, and the gravel just looked smart. Anyway tank was from www.seapets.co.uk incase anyone else wants one. I'd deffo recommend them, customer service was excellent, they even rang me to see which day was best for me to accept next day delivery! Tank was around £100 delivered for a 90 litre. Comes with the heater (75w), built in light into the hood, and an internal filter / pump (450 L/h) .

Next was the impossible task of trying to find a stand that was suitable to hold approx 120kg, my dad suggested I make one. My friends is a fabricator / weldor so I sent him some measurements

Expertly drawn on the iPhone app draw something! Needless to say my girlfriend asked me what the hell a stand with measurements had to do with a wig lol. But cut a long story short, he couldn't build it due to him not having any spare materials in his work

So i had to find one that looked nice, didn't cost a fortune and also matched the existing furniture in the conservatory. So after a few trips to shops round town

I came up with this, maidenhead aquatics in Carlisle, ex display model (discounted of course!) £130 and I got it for £80, bargain I reckon!

Bought some plants at MA aswell. What they were / are I don't have a clue but they are doing ok

Bought some caves off eBay, didn't wanna go too tacky and luckily they matched the colour of my plants almost perfectly

Bought myself 2 plecs and 6 guppies, 4 females and 2 males, had those a few weeks then bought 6 harlequins. One of the plecs died unfortunately after only a day, shock maybe?

Then after another couple of weeks I bought 6 endlers guppies

Finally after a week or so more I finished my tank off with 6 tetras

I got a couple more plants from dobbies garden centre, 1 large plant on a log and a couple of smaller ones. What a mistake the log was, absolutely riddled with snails!

Here are some pics of the tank with the caves and the new plants. You'll note how much the plants have grown!

Then came the "bad" weather. Extreme heat which killed a lot of my fish. Lost all but 3 tetras, all but 1 harlequin and all the endlers :(

Weather went and my tank got back to normal. Gave some plant clippings to almost awesome on here as she's local to me.

Fish have been fat for a while now, I suspected they were pregnant for ages but when nothing showed for weeks and weeks on end, I just started to think they were fat!

Anyway one morning I come in o find 6 baby fry

Well my tank was pretty minging with algae etc. my dads oldskool and they didn't do a fraction of the amount of water changes we do today, he kept saying leave it, ont mess etc

As sons and daughters do I completely ignored him and decided on a full clean out, not just a 70% water change, but gravel, plants, tank etc

Whilst doing this I found a good 10-15 more fry!

He's quite shy so not a bad pic considering

My shy plec

Just bought some new additions to my tank

7 bronze Cory's
13 cardinal tetras

And 6 Hengeli rasboras from almost awesome on here

That's just took me an eternity to scroll through all the pics!

That tank would make for an awesome planted tank with a overhead light unit. Looks great without the lid!

Nice fish too, congratulations on the babies.

Thats a nice lookin tank you have there. BIG fan of the bowed front tanks myself :good:

Only thing I would say is... the weather is only going to continue to get hotter this time of year, and you know what its like... 1 min its 14 deg, then for a mad week, its 28! I would maybe think about moving your tank into the house, save any more fishes being fried.

G

Tank is looking good mate, if you ever get rid of that tank put me first on the list :good: lol
Agree with minnnters on the overhead light unit but i'd leave that for future upgrades when you go high tech planted ;)

The red plant looks like alternanthera rosaefolia, maidenhead aquatics @ houghton hall always got the stuff in .
People recommend high lighting for it but it's doing pretty well in my tank, just trial and error.

Yay! I'll stalk this journal :p - and yep he's gave me some lovely dwarf chain sword which I loooove and I hope it goes nuts in my tank like it has in yours hehe.

What's classed as 'extreme heat'? Our summers here can reach 50°C on a bad day (not inside, admittedly) and I've never lost a fish due to it.

Tank looks great anyway, I love the substrate :) and the fat little guppies :3

It doesn't get that hot here but because the majority of British homes don't have A/C so the temperature inside is whatever it is outside so if we get a freak 30 degree day you've got problems, also Peter C has his tank in the conservatory so it's more vulnerable to temperature changes :)

The temp changed so quick too, my 20g shot from 24c to 32-34c in no time a little while back.
55g didn't move at all, stuck his ground like a baws

Oh of course, didn't even think of that ;) I can imagine how hot it could get in a conservatory too, and how quickly. Yikes.

Looking great mate, I used seapets too for my new stand, great company. Aquaessentials are also a favourite of mine for plants and rocks give them a look if you haven't already

Very nice tank. Love the pic of the plec munching on bloodworm :)

I've just changed to an external filter on my 200L and the difference is amazing, glad to see I'm not the only person on here who's gone with a Fluval LOL.

I ordered some stuff from Seapets last week and no sign of anything yet  Bit disappointed really.
