i am not comptly shour what kind of lighting i have but when i baugh the Anemone, i also asked what kind of ligh would be best so i got a new one when i got it also...my tank has been running now for months!! so it's well cycled!!

as for the live rock there is a new fish stor opening close to me and he is having WAY lower prices then all the other places so i already have 17 more pounds of live rock ordered form him!! :) :)

Cycled & mature are completely different

There is no way your tank is mature - Cycled yes but mature NO & no where near ready enought for a Nem

Anemones need a mature tank where stability can almost be assured, a 1 month old tank will not offer this

The fact that you do not know what type & rating of lighting you have is worring to say the least

IMO if you are interested in the well fare of the Nem you will return it to your LFS as IMO it will more than likely die in such a young tank

Did you do any reasearch on Anemone's before buying :grr:

Would I be right in thinking you also have powerheads in your tank as well

ok..well..yes my tank is mature! i got it off a guy who had it set up for over a year! and the guy at the fish store told me this was the best lighting for the Anemone's! and yes i do have a power head... it says that this type of Anemone likes a good water flow...and yes i did do my reasearch befor i got it thank you very much

so don't :grr: me befor you knwo everything there bud! :sly:

ps: the new has gown almost twice it's size now in about 3 weeks!! so something is right! :p :)

People in fish stores do lie. They have something to gain from you buying an anemone, income (mulah.... $$$)! Members here are trying to help your tank, and have nothing to gain from your ill choices. You shoud know your lighting though. The extension your anemone has shown may not be growth, but extension to find more light.

Search for the type of lighting you have, or tell us what it was you said you bought for the nem the other day.

Is it A) Metal Halide (small bulbs around 3 inches long) or B ) Flourecent lighting (IE tubes like you find in neon lights instreet signs).

Nemones' need MH lighting, so whilst your tank might be older, your lighting may not completly suit your nem.

Let us know more info, so you know if your nem can survive long term.

so is it ok??

I am not gonna pretend to be an expert in Nems (Hence why in the years I have had many reef tanks I have never had a nem, simply due to the commitment I would have to make to it)

IMO your 110w of lighting is not enought to keep this aminal healthy & the fact that you have powerheads in your tank could easily lead to the Nem being minced throught them, which will casue a massive ammonia spike & a possible wipe out of your livestock

These kind of posts have become to common IMO, where newbies dont reasearch the animals they buy & soly rely on there LFS to keep them right, which just ends up with loads of dead nems

Bomber your tank may or may not be mature but imo you dont know enough about Nems to keep one healthy, IMO adding a Nem to a tank isnt just like adding another coral or fish, special care & research need to be done after the decision is made to buy one & long before actually buying the nem, some people actually prepare there tanks from scratch knowing that they will be adding a nem & altering the tank suitably

These are animals that live for hundreds (if not more) of years in the wild, but in the wrong tank barely survive months

well i'am just letting you know i'am going to keep it beacuse it seams very happy were it is..it hasn't moved once since i got it and it found a nice place on one of my rocks..but i will give it back to the LFS if i have any truble/see any singes of the nem not doing well, but for now it's eating very good! and seams to like it's new home! but like i said if it has any signes ofit being harmed or anything like that i'll bring it right back!

(i'll keep you all posted on how it goes)

ps: is there a better nem you think i could get??i mean you guys would know better then i do..but i did do some research on this nem!! i am going to be getting a pair of clowns soon so whats best for them..aslo i have a whole new lighting kit comming in..it's gona be wicked..so the nem shuld be fine!!

also Chac you said about the powr head, well it'alomst in the left hand coner, wich is the same coner as the power head so it will not be dircted right at the nem? that what you ment?

thanks!

(i have pictures but i can't figure out how to post them up)

it seams very happy were it is

How do you know it is happy ?
but i will give it back to the LFS if i have any truble/see any singes of the nem not doing well

Again - how will you know when this is, since you dont know much about Nems?

ps: is there a better nem you think i could get

Pearl Bubble nems are very easy to keep & not to light loving

aslo i have a whole new lighting kit comming in

What type of lighting

powerhead

Powerheads are one of the biggest killers of Nems (as well as Newbie's), the nem will get sucked in & spat out in a thousand bits & this will only be the start of the problems - after this you ammonia levels will skyrocket & will casue a wipeout of livestock

Your Nem will move around your tank & invariably it will get near your powerhead (hopefully you have more than 1 powerhead)

So not only the Nem will be killed but so will all the other livestock, but obviously you are happy to take the risk which I persoanlly think is very irresponsible

-i was told the nem was happy if it stayed oin one spot and eat everytimg i fed it...

-they said if the nem's tentickls start to turn a black/brown clour and moves form it's spot it mostlikley is in truble (that hasn't happened yet)

- Pearl Bubble nems are very easy to keep & not to light loving (thanks for leting me know, i'll check up on it)

- the lighting kit has dule lighting, it has one Floresent, and one MH, both bulbs are 2 feet long and it will provide the best lighting for my tank! i'll have pics of that soon! (this lighting system is the same as all the LFS have on all of there tanks!)

-as for the power head, yes i have 2 powerheads... and it that the same with all other nems?? they can kill all your live stock ( i don't have any in there yet) also my nem has never come ever close to my power head...

how do i post pics??

Looks like it ate something.

You never know when one will move or pinch off and float around. So power head be ware!

I had some snails knock off a cover to a power head and my "Nem" went up for a look. This all happened while we were working in the room. No more nem :( It can all happen faster than you think.

PS we have toothpicks holding the sponge over the PH now :/

Yeah, thats a total eating response and a good sign. You want your nem to eat ;)

This is exactly why you shouldnt own a Nem - if you dont know it was feeding then you havent done enough reasearch on it, IMO just putting your own wants before the welfare of this animal :shout: :shout:

well as i said i did reasearch, but i never seen anyhing like that come up..then only thing i found that was close to that was that the nem might die..but it's 100% ok agin....but now i know what it does when it eating..so i'am learning more everyday.. you really can't except me to know 100% of everything there is to know about this nem..but i do know some stuff so i have to learn

thanks guys for the help :good:

i'll post more pics of my tank this friday hopfully when i get the rest of my LR! :)
