I like the diy hood too. My light is pretty dim, I wonder if I can add a led like yours to make my tank a little brighter.

Do you need special LEDs or can you get them at say home depot or lowes?

thanks guys! yeah, i thought about putting a reflector in there, or painting the insides white at least, but as narrow as the light pattern is on these LED's it didnt seem necessary at the time. in the future Ill probably do it. these LED's arent enuf for plants, not in this size tank. but when they were on my 10 gallon, they seemed bright enough (none of my plants died)
