this is going to be a little journal of my daughters tank.

The fake wood had to go.

I made this for my 3 year old who wants a tank of her own, Im going to let her and my wife "decorate" this tank so I see a spongebob figurine, a no fishing sign, and maybe a bubble diver in this tanks future. it'll be good not to have as much maintenance as i do on my planted tanks.

more updates to come.

Its looking good however personally I would add some reflectors or even line the top guttering with foil to create a reflector. This will enhance the light in the tank and ensure you get the full potential out of your LEDs!

I'm curious about the LEDs too....... Would they put out enough light for a planted tank?

Nice DIY skils, by the way!

thanks guys! yeah, i thought about putting a reflector in there, or painting the insides white at least, but as narrow as the light pattern is on these LED's it didnt seem necessary at the time. in the future Ill probably do it. these LED's arent enuf for plants, not in this size tank. but when they were on my 10 gallon, they seemed bright enough (none of my plants died)

here it is with some more kid friendly stuff.

Love it mate, nice to see some of these, far to many natural biotape jobbies!! Nice to see it not too ott either though.

I agree minnt. It's nice to lighten up once in a while, as long as the fish don't mind, and let's face it there's not much a platy cares about apart from food, is there?!

hmmm... i can think of something else he might be interested in... Must admit it is a very nice swordtail, loving the colours.

Oh, and btw, stop trying to pass this off as your daughters tank, we all know it's yours!!

thanks guys! yeah, ive had to remind myself this is my daughters tank more than once when it came to decorations, i was like hmm, natural sand look, maybe go with a egyptian theme... started talking to my wife about it, and she was like, no it should be completely random and colorful and whatever our daughter wants. lol. put me in my place. thats one thing women are good at!

Looks great, would never of thought to use guttering as a hood! I'll make a note of that one, your daughter must love it. :hyper:

awwww it's looking great, I'll bet your 3 year old loves it. It's nice to have a bit of fun with a tank I think ad what's even better is you fixed it up for her. My niece Lexy loves looking at my tank when she comes over.

Very innovative with the hood-making - well done, it looks a fab little tank for your daughter.

Who's a clever daddy then? LOL

Im really suprised to see how much the plants have grown since my first pics. I didnt think the little LED strips would be enough, but yeah that willow leaf hygro is like impossible to kill and i really like the look of it. its now in all 4 of my tanks!
