Hello all,

I discovered last night that my betta has created his 1st bubble nest, he is in a community tank with 2 other females and mainly bottom dwellers.
What should I look out for now? There are a few stray plants floating near the nest, normally I would remove them but I dont want to disturb anything.
I would love for these to spawn although I am doubtful they will so any help and info would be appreciated

btw, u shouldnt have ur male in with the females

also u should not have just 2 females, they need to be kept in groups of atleast 4

:)

phoe is right, you should never keep males and females together as one day either he will turn or they will and you likely to end up with either very battered or dead fish. Females should also be in groups of 4 or more, this helps to spread out agression and stop the one on one scraps they might have.

Congrats on the bubble nest tho :good:

If what you have are betta splendens, you are lucky they are all still alive. If they are something like betta imbellis that might be a different story. It is my understanding that betta imbellis can be kept in company with each other without significant aggression even between males. Some that I saw at my LFS seemed to confirm that but I've never tried them myself.

They have been housed together for nearly a month now. Dont know if this is a good or bad thing but they started spawning this afternoon. Not sure if I will have any luck with it, but it was really interesting to watch.

arghhh for god sake

if they have spawned then u are going to have to remove all the fish including the females and leave the male in by himself

switch ur filter off, lower the water too

ur so not prepared for this, u could get about 400 fry from this, have u even got a grow out tank for them

a tank for the male once u remove him? what about the females?

grr this really ticks me off when people dnt listen to advice

wow.. chill. its not like this person was given the advice weeks ago and decided to go against it deliberately.

likely they were missinformed, as soooo many others are, by lfs staff that you need to keep 2 or 3 females with a male, as if they are guppies or something.

although, i have heard soem stories from experts of a betta litter living together, both male and female, in a community tank with no dangerous or aggressive fighting. Only normal pecking order chasing.

I remember reading from one that they just got used to each other

before i knew better i kept a male with 2 females in a comunity tank, and they got along fine, but this is the EXCEPYION not the rule. its not fair on the fish to try it and see what happens

even if the fish seem to be the exception to the rule, everything could be fine...fine...fine...everybody dead or dieing. I think it does suck the craptastic advice so many of us get before we get a push in the right direction.

but I do agree, have you read up on what it takes to take care of baby bettas?, it is time effort, and if you dont have a lot of tanks hanging around money. And you did get advice the other day that male and females should not be kept together, but didnt listen and came back to say oh cool they spawned.

the daddy will probebly kill the females and any other fish in the tank to protect his babys, and if he does not manage to kill the others, the females and other fish will eat ALL the eggs and ALL the babies. take the females and other fish into a seperate tank, get a tank for the daddy after the babies are free swimming, and read up on how to take care of the babies, at the top of the page pinned are commenly asked questions, read it ALL.

blue betta this fella WAS given advice on this the other day

this person chose not to listen, n now is gonna end up with hundred of babies, oh and some dead fish coz they didnt listen

thats why im ticked off

Excuse me??? I only posted this topic this morning. I apologise if your offended by my actions, which Id like to put down to inexperience rather than stupidity, but there is no need for you to kick off with the "holier than thou" speech.

no problem man, all make mistakes, but I do understand phoenixbaby's feelings. I also get sick and tired when people purchase a pet and know jack squat about how to take care of it and the animal has to suffer for the owners ignorance.

but again, mistakes happen, this is my first betta but a month before I purchased it, I spent hours doing extensive research on them and how to take care of them and still I made some small mistakes. Live and Learn
