I'm moving from an apartment to a house this week, not a big distance move, only about 10 minutes drive or so. I'm taking both of my fish tanks with me, contents including:

37 gallon fish tank
1 firemouth
1 convict
9 black skirt tetras
5 khuli loaches
1 raphael catfish
2 anubias nana
2 anubias barteri
2 java fern
3 medium pieces of driftwood
~40 pounds of sand

20 gallon fish tank
1 convict
~10 pounds of sand
plastic junk

I kind of sort of have an idea of how to get this done. Unfortunately my supplies are pretty limited. I've got 3 little plastic container things and a pretty much unlimited supply of ziplock bags and very little money. I'm just looking for some tips and such on anything in regards to moving the tanks and fish from place to place safely.

Thanks in advance

will you need to pack up the tank and fish on the same day as moving? I moved house recently and opted to move the tank to my parents for a week just to avoid the stress of doing it on moving day!

that aside, I used a 60L plastic container to move the contents of my 125L (33g) tank. You can pick something up like that fairly cheaply. I paid less that £5 for mine. This way you can also take a fair amount of the tank water with you which will make this a bit easier and quicker when setting up again and acclimatising the fish (will be just like a large water change for them, rather than completely new water).

I moved house about 2 years ago with around 40 tanks and around 12,000 fish (at least)..... more or less a 5hour move and lost only one guppy female (think a rock tilted and fell on her)..

Leave the fish in the tank and drain the water to about 2 (or 3) inches depth..... remove the loose ornaments and heavy rocks, and be on your way. At the new place...... put the tanks in their required positions and fill the tanks very slowly......Tanks will not be heavy to carry with only 3 inches of water in.

I'll be moving all in one day, yeah. I don't have a whole lot of stuff. Bed, dresser, TV, clothes, fish tanks. That's it

Sounds risky to keep the fish in, since I have to take the tanks down from the third floor of the apartment complex, and then back up to the second floor of the house. Not to mention how bumpy and weavey the roads are out here. I do have some plastic containers that would probably work better for holding the fish. Would it be safe to leave the sand and plants in the tanks, though?
