In August, I'm moving to the other side of the country and I'd kind of resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to leave Bubbles behind. But before I give him up for adoption, I wanted to ask the members here if there's any way I can safely bring him with me.

Has anyone ever done a long-distance move with a fish? My fiancee thinks I'm a little kooky, but I'm really attached to the little fella!

Its quite possible for you to move him with you. :good:

Get yourself a couple of fish bags to double bag him; either a polystyrene or small cardboard box; a couple of those hand warmers.

Leave packing him away till the last minute before you leave. Pack him away in his box with newspaper around him to keep him secure. If its a particularly warm day you may not need the hand warmers.

If he has a filter in his tank, bag the filter material with some water from the tank. If you're lucky some bacteria may survive.

When you get to your destination, unpack his tank, fill with clean water, pop the filter back in, and float your fish just as you would a new one. :good:

You can add a bit of api stress coat to his travelling water too :good:

i have heard of people puting bettas in i gallon plastic milk jugs ,, witth about 2/3 water 1/3 air, then actually carring the fish as they go,,like you would a purse , :good: apparently bob the builder,,, no i didnt name him,, went from minisoda to californa that way when his owner left for college

If you follow what Bronze said he will be fine. Bettas do travel very well as long as they remain at a good temp.

Wow, thank you everyone! I'm thrilled to know I'll be able to bring him with us! I rescued him from my cousin's wedding a year ago, and I honestly don't trust anyone to take care of him the way I do... ;)

So, yay!

your cousins wedding

Yes, he was one of many bettas that were used in vases as table centerpieces! :grr: I didn't know a damn thing about Bettas at the time, but I just knew I had to give him a proper home. (And I'm happy to say, all the other Bettas got new homes, as well.) Little did I know he'd get me hooked!
