So I'm not doing this yet, but I like to research as much as I can.

I'll be going to college next fall, and they allow 10 gallon fish tanks (woohoo!)

I have, currently and hope to keep them for years to come, 2 balloon belly mollies, 1 platy, 1 dwarf gourami and 1 albino cory catfish.

I'm moving from Las Vegas, NV to New Orleans, LA

It'd probably take us 2 or 3 days.

What would be the best, safest, and most successful way to get my little guys from my place to my dorm? I've heard the idea of keeping them in the tank, emptying it halfway and taking everything out but them, but how could I regulate temperature and things? Or could I put them on the floor maybe on the passenger's side, and plug their stuff into the cigarette lighter?

Or would it be easier, since I'm not sure my little tank can handle being traveled with water, to put them in a 5 gallon new bucket (easier to carry) and give them their heater and filter and just cart them in and out of the hotel each night? Has anyone used this method before?

Suggestions please!
