Moving My Tank to College

My betta successfully made the transition to college and back home after the year ended. But he is now biting his fins. If anyone has any advice on how to stop this I would greatly appreciate it.

What is the tank like? Boredom may be an issue?
But there is a train of thought that the fish do this consciously to reduce the weight of excessive finnage .
