Mouldy Rock?

Hi everyone.I'm currently setting up my new tank,but today I noticed a strange furry substance on one of the rocks,I don't think its algae because its white rather than green and more like a mould than an algae.Does anyone know what it is?

Take it out and either submerse in, or pour over, boiling water to kill everything off before use......

sorry should of specified,I have boiled all the rocks before i put them in the tank

Mold wouldn't normally grow on rock -- there is nothing in a rock for mold to consume and get energy from. From the description, is may be a bacterial bio film forming -- bacteria can use minerals and can also use whats in the water to grow. Or is could be a form of algae. There is a very wide variety of algae out there, and you may just have an usual looking one.

hi,I think it may be a bacterial film but i'm not sure, either way im removing the rock,I just want to know what else I should do. will these pictures help?

It looks simular to what i have on my plants. If it is ... im told not to worry as it happens in new tanks.
