Don't forget we have two tanks concerning us here; the OP's 2.5 foot with the convicts and 'sharks' and Dieses's 40g with betta, 5 guppies, 3 swordtails, and 2 platys...

I'm definatly going to keep an eye on my betta (and guppies for that matter) I was misinformed as to compatability in a community tank. They seem to be okay, but I will watch and remove the betta if there is even a hint of something weird :)

Your stocking is not nearly as scary as the OPs anyway!

Well, I went off of a compatibility chart that I had found online (http://www.oneworldinternetcafe.com/betta/betta_compatable.html http://aquariuminfo.org/compatibility.html to name a few), because we had an incident with a tiger bard that killed on of my fish.....we rehomed that guy. I had looked at several charts and all of them seemed to indicate that they were okay. Well, when I got the betta that was in the community tank, he was first in a 2 gallon, betta tank. Well, within 5 hours he started acting really weird, laying on his side, floating on his back in the water and such. So worried that there was something wrong with the water (which i did treat with conditioner prior to putting him in) so i looked online to see if he would be safe in my community tank for a short while. I had planned on moving him eventually when i got his tank right, but he seems to be rather content. He swims around, never hides, flares at himself in the mirror. I haven't seen him nip at anyone, or vise versa. But given the new information I think I will once again consider moving him. But if he is seemingly content with his current residence, will it inflict stress to move him?

As Athena said, bettas are very much individulas, so if he seems happy and and he's not bothering anyone nor has anyone bothering him, I feel you might just as well leave him wher he is (monitoring the situation carefully, of course).

I appreciate the advice from both you and Athena. I am still fairly new at this. Learning everyday. My platy had babies yesterday, and unfortunately my larger tank for the fry wasn't quite ready. I had coaxed mom into the breeder net where she birthed 10 fry, then released her (didn't want to keep her cooped up for TOO long) and I know there are more fry hiding in the tank itself. Although I have read about people putting their fish in these "breeder boxes" I also hear its not ideal. But how do I keep them from being eaten? So much to learn and so many obstacles! But I Guess that is why fishkeeping is so interesting.

i already have 3 tiger barbs its a red tipped and a silver shark. i willtry and get a pic up

hay man no need for the snidey remarks aswell

Yes, I'm afrad the sharks and the convict really should go; hope you find people to take them; best of luck.

thanks for some off your comments much appreciated

thanks man finally someone who knows what there talkin about

How on earth can you come out with a statement like that?
People on here have tried to help you. Because they know what they're talking about. Your statement is rude. You come on here asking for help and them when your given advice from members who know what they're talking about it you don't take it and tell them they don't know what they're talking about.

@ the OP

Yes... I thought you might...

Hey - why don't you add a few piranhas, a few bosemani's and some tiger barbs eh?

*Thinks that is the kind of irresponsible remark that this OP would like to see*

There's an old saying...you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

Ok - I give up on this one...

on't worry, the school holidays wont last for ever and the board will soon be back to normal! *shakes head*

oh yeh help ful comments get a grip

"oh yeh help ful comments get a grip" - well you got plenty of helpful comments and didn't like those either! You asked a question and got advice based on the info you gave, then ignored it all like it wasn't wanted in the first place.

Your stocking isn't suitable. Enjoy it while it lasts.

i only asked for help then the fish police came down on me because im a newbie u see it alot

That's really not the case at all. You are a bit dismissive of help and advice. People just want you to do the best for your fish, and after telling you how to do this, you said that you would leave your tank 'as it is' - willfully ignoring people who do know better than you in this case and are giving you the advice you asked for. You might be a newbie but that doesn't mean you're being picked on. Everyone starts somewhere. If you really want to keep fish successfully and enjoy it, you need to listen to what's being said, not get defensive.
