on the farm, it's fly season right now... the aquarium lights attract them, when the house is dark... this morning, there is a big black fly crawling around on the front of the Hillstream tank... the fish must be able to see it, as several have swam up, and tried to eat it... maybe they are bored, and it's non threatening activity... I hate those flys in the house, but the fish seem to like them:)

My old betta used to go mad for gnats. I used to have them crawl along the glass and be chased by the fish. Some would even manage to slip into the tank and become a snack.

Archerfish love their bugs. Flying, crawling or swimming bugs do not stand a chance. And as an added bonus, it seems I get 'shot' just for Archerfish amusement!

My fishroom isn't in the house, but in a garage.
The window fans here go off before the lights do, and the fans allow life in when they aren't in action. If I go in and turn on the lights at night, there are lots of small gnats, mosquitoes and such up around the ceiling.
But every morning when I go in, there are none. A few probably stumble into the pitcher plants on the shallow part of the bog tank, and there are a tiny number of spiders, but most bugs are drawn to water, and there's always a warm (well, room temperature) greeting awaiting them.
It is a NYC as well. Just swatted a few and dropped them in the tanks.
NYC? It must be the great herds of cattle.
