My wife, kids and I went for a hike this morning a few miles down the road from our house. Things are just starting to bloom here in Ohio. Nice and cool with temperatures in the low 50s. We found lots of Sarracenia purpurea, ferns, various wild orchids and other flowers, various mosses (including a sphagnum bog) and all sorts of fungi. We even found a very chill garter snake.

Love this. My small one very impressed by pitcher plants. We have a sphagnum bog facing us, though currently there's a planning dispute and a developer wants to put 300 houses there instead

Noooooo! ? I hate seeing things like that.

Have you gotten your little one a pitcher plant? They are so cool! There is also Drosera rotundifolia around the bog, but we didn't see any today. We already have VFT and I am keeping my eye out for pitchers and sundews so I can set up a carnivorous terrarium.

I'm busy killing my second Venus fly trap. I'm pretty lethal to non-aquatic plants. If this one makes it somehow I'll consider a pitcher plant if I can get one ha ha! She's o ky 5 but she is pretty brutal and likes a bit of science ha ha!

Probably the biggest mistakes people make are using nutrient rich soils and water, not giving them enough light and too big of meals. Definitely don't use Miracle-Gro or anything like that. Plain sphagnum peat and sand (or perlite) with good drainage and de-mineralized water. Lots and lots of sun or a wicked grow light. A small bug 1/3 the size of one leaf per plant every couple weeks is all it takes and they'll get all the nutrition (fertilizer) they need from that. Rehydrated bloodworms even work! You just have to tickle the hairs to trick it into thinking it's alive.
