Hi, i have just done ammonia(0), PH(7.4) and nitrites(0) tests, i don't have a nitrate test kit and just wondered is it worth me buying one as they don't come cheap and if so why?

i was going to get one when i ran out of ph, ammonia and nitrite test kits, would i be able to wait or is it vital to get one asap?

i was going to get one when i ran out of ph, ammonia and nitrite test kits, would i be able to wait or is it vital to get one asap?

i am sure they sell the individual test kits on there
as well the last time i looked they were selling separate
kits as well

Is your tank cycled? (ie. have you had ammonia then nitrite spike before your present readings)

If it has been cycled then a nitrate test kit is not vital, although it is best to have one. The nitrate will build up in any tank which is why water changes are necessary. Up to 100 ppm can be tolerated but a level of far less than that is preferable. If you 30% water change on a 1 to 2 week basis (depending on stock/tank size) then your nitrate level should remain low enough. I have a full test kit but rarely use it these days, I depend on other signs to determine whether or not my levels may need adjusting which is almost never

yes it hase been cycled, my father says the same that he can always tell he doesn't bother with any kits but hes been at it for years so experience i guess thanks for ur reply
