More New Fish

What a beautiful tank you have! How long have you been working on it? The plants look so well established and healthy.

The brochis are some big hefty fish. Mine came today too, and while they are skittish, I did manage to take a few pictures.

They are mostly hanging out together at the bottom, but I was lucky and caught this one checking things out. Look at these barbels. Aren't they incredible?

I also got this picture of the green lasers:

I'll try to get pics of the caudimaculatus and the pastazensis tomorrow. I did make an attempt, but they didn't turn out, and I don't want to upset them using the flash again.

BTW, for anyone that doesn't know what we were talking about earlier, these fish were purchased from Bryan at CorysRus! He did a fine job of packing them and they all arrived in good shape.

So Inchy what did you get?

Barracuda, which of the Brochis are the pics of? I see one fellow has been pushing something around with his cute bulldozer nose.

I can't have mine until next week. I have a deal with Bryan, If he only has a few of something I have ordered, he lets me know and I take them all. He found more multiradiatus, so I am getting 7. You guys are getting me excited about the new Brochis! They look super!

Oh jollysue, you will love them. They are spectacular in size, compared to even full grown C. aeneus. Mine are starting to swim around a little ore actively, but since they are going to be in a 10 gallon quarantine tank for awhile, they can't do too much right now. I am thinking about putting them in my 29 gallon bathroom tank, but it's still full of young bronze corys. That tank would have enough capacity and height to make them more comfortable, and of all my tanks it's probably the one I spend the most time enjoying.

I found my first casualty this morning. One of the pastazensis was belly-up on the ground. There was no indication that any of the fish were in particular distress last night, and the rest of them look fine this morning. They are still a little jumpy from their trip, but that seems to be all that's wrong with them.

Well it is hard to tell by these pictures. The B. multiradiatus are a lot bigger then the britskii, so its very easy for me to tell at home. I will try to get some pictures to show the difference, but they didnt like the light being on that soon. You can tell by their snouts too, if you look at this picture you can see. The multiradiatus has a longer snout:

I also think the above picture is 2 britskii on the left and a multiradiatus on the right and a britskii sneaking into the picture.

Also the britskii have more color on the head, but you really cant tell by these pictures. The multiradiatus also have a gray tint to them. I think in this picture, its a multiradiatus in the middle of 2 britskii.

Just to give a little update. These fish are incredible. It looks like they have finally settled in. It took them a little longer then most of the other fish I have gotten. Im looking at them right now and they are schooling along the glass in and out of the plants. My B. splendens do that too, so I was waiting for these to start

These guys consume HUGE amounts of food!

There is something special about these fish and their giant size. It's really a nice thing to watch them school together and I wish I had an even bigger tank for them than the 29 high they are in now. Their color changes too, depending on the light and the angle I'm seeing them at. Sometimes they seem almost a slate gray, and other times they are more green with a bright gold sheen.

Im going to get some more of mine when I get some time. They are always active it seems. They will all stop and sit in the corner for a couple of minutes and go at it again. The multiradiatus get along very well with the britskii. Its quite a site to see 12 fish that big swimming along the front of the glass. I have also noticed that they like to go to the top and stick their dorsel fin out of the water and take off along the top of the water. Not sure what thats about.

They are lovely Cats. I know what you mean, Inchworm. I want a larger foot print for them than my 25 Tall usg.

Do you think they are too big for the splendens? What would be nice with them? I have some starlight Plecs that are suppose to get 9". I wonder if they would make a combo? I also have those Jari Plecs, but they are only about 3 or 4 inches w/o the tail.

Isn't it nice to have Inchworm back, Barracuda? It has been a struggle to keep it going well here w/o her. 8) Really I got into Corys because of you, Inchy, and I know Barracuda did to. This forum was always a "shelter in the storm!" I remember when you told me I wasn't baking turkeys when I was going to use a turky baster to clean my first hatching/fry tank.

I have to go feed my hungry Cats. I suppose I will be using 3.5 lbs of worms a month now. that will be up fom 3 lbs. What have you, Barracuda, and Bryan done to me?!

How big are the B. Splendens? I dont see where you will have any problems. I actually thought of setting up a 55 gallon for all my Brochis. They seem to really enjoy each others company, no matter if they are a different species.

Yes, Its very good to have Inchworm back and yes she is the reason I started keeping cories. Frank and Bryan have also helped in that too

How many species do you have now?

Its really fun to see what all fish people are getting these days and being able to talk about them. Im always on the look out for a new post from Frank about a new species he has acquired or spawned.

I was looking at your list, and I would not bet on having more than you. I will take some time in the next week and count my species of Cats, Do Synos count?

It would be interesting to know just what you have jollysue. Perhaps when you are setting up your tanks when you move them, you can do an inventory.

I need to look at my communities, one by one, too. I've lost a few over the last year, but I keep finding ones I thought were gone. Some were just misplaced when I moved my tanks around earlier this year.
