IAL=Indian Almond Leaf is a leaf of a tree that is traditionally used to treat Betta water in Thailand. It has some amazing properties and helps to condition and heal Siameze Fighting Fish. (BTW, I am no expert here, just giving my understandings.) It lowers the ph of water and is an ideal treatment for Betta and actually any fish that like low ph water

I have never used the tea bags, so I can't give you any help there. But I do, and many professional Betta keepers and breeders do, use IAL regularly.

It doesn't make water brackish, which means "somewhat salty, esp. fresh/salt water mix." It does make it reddish tan resembling peat treated water, but with many more benefits. I use about a 1.5-2 inch square of leaf per usg. Perhaps you can translate that to a tea bag. IAL can also be purchased in liquid extracts in a variety of brands.

You can check out majesticbettas.com or IBC Betta Congress sales

here

for other IAL options.

Does that help?

Actually yes, that may be helpful. I've been informed that one teabag is equal to one full leaf. I have one of those tea "balls" that you put loose tea in and can always rip the bags open and use it that way.

Yeah....using the word brackish....my bad. LOL

Do you suppose you can breack that down to percentages to the water (ie: 10% of a full leaf for 5 gallons of water type thing)?
Right off the bat, I would guesstimate that the 1.5-2 inch square of a leaf may equal approximaltely 1/2 tsp of crushed leaf. Not sure. LOL So gallon size is the tank you use this amount in?

Thanks SO much!

I always want to use "brackish" to describe tanish water too.

And I knew you were going to ask that! again

An IAL leaf is about 10" x 6"; 6 square inches of leaf is about 1/4 tsp or even less.
