One of my honey dust mollies has had some fry 2 days ago, i think 3 have survived maybe more but cant see anymore at the moment. I've decided to go down survival of the fittest route as opposed to trying to seperate them as i really dont want lots of one particular fish prefering to have small groups of 4 or 5. What chances do you give them of surviving they stay very close to the gravel and hide in the plants at the first sign of bigger fish.

Some will probably make it; if not from this brood then the next one...or the next one..or the one after that....

Fine leaved live plants make the best hide outs for fry, if you do want some to make it. Most livebearer fry prefer to stay up near the water surface, so you can let the plants float if you like :)

still alive at themoment !! as you say they are living in the close leaves of a big artificial plant i have. One of my swords looks pregnant as well so i suppose i should get used to this Lol

Just a quick update on the fry, they are all still alive and visibly growing. Still hugging the plants as before. I lose them for a few hours and just as i convince myself they are brown bread they suddenly appear again Lol

They're probably eating algea or microscopic food that grows around plants.

They actually dart out from cover and eat falling flake when i feed my fish every evening, they eat quite large pieces as well, i thought you had to really grind it to dust for fry so am surprised.

They are very oppurtunistic in my time with livebearers. :)

If your fry are alive after a week chances are they will do just fine. Mollies are far larger than swords or guppies when newborn so they have  fair chance of surviving as long as the rest of the fish are well fed.

Down to one left now :( did have two for a long time and jaust as i said to my son "i think they are big enough to survive now" the biggest one of the two vanished so im assuming chomped.
