So I wasnt suppose to be getting anymore fish because I have to replace my laptop but I went to the store today and saw this amazing female (I think) betta! Red white and Blue with a shimmer of the blue of her body with gold on her red fins

Sorry the photo isnt the best I took it while we were still at the store. But now the problem begins! Where am i to put her?!? I cant get the Tank divider until tomorrow (the store didnt have any so I have to go to a different one) she cant stay in with spear..(until I have the tank divider) to risky. Could she be ok with guppies for one night? Or should I pull out the 1.5 tank I have as a emergency backup?

congrats on your new girl,- she's lovely! Not sure what to advise about her temporary placement,- never had one in with guppies. Hopefully lilfishie will be on here tonight and should be able to give you all the help you need. :)

Thanks. Right now I have her floating in spears 10 gallon tank getting use to the temp since both spears and the guppies tank is the same temp. I was afraid she wasnt a girl at first because she flared at spear.. but she has the little white egg spot, and im sure males dont have that lol. My mom actually came up with the name, when I showed her she thought of the miss america beauty pagent lol! So it stuck with her :) Plus shes the colors of america's flag..

Now they are both calm and spear is just swimming around like "ok what ever im bored now" lol! He's a lot more gentle than any other betta I've had but I'm afraid if I leave her in there that might change..

I had a male betta in with my guppies before but he was sick so he was pretty calm (died 2 days later because of being sick) But I found out it was a bad idea if you have male guppies because they think the betta will try to mate with the femlaes! But not sure how it would go with a female betta..

What are the chances her and spear would get along?

Well she is Defiantly female as far as i can see. She looks like a beauty :) Try her with the guppies for a couple of hours? Thats what i would do. Some people strongly disagree. but i have seen many a time where FEMALE beta's have been kept in a community setup without any issues, Depends on that certain fish in my opinion :)

I have my females with cories and ghost shrimp right now (the baby shrimp are getting eaten

And glad the name stuck

I'll float her in the guppy tank for a few and see what reactions I get.. As soon as I took her out spear raced up to the front of the tank. I think he likes her yay! ^_^

The only thing I worry about in the guppy tank is if they will fight and if they will let her eat. they go crazy when its time to eat and may not even give her a chance to snatch a bloodworm if shes a slow eater like spear. Hmm..

I wouldn't worry about feeding since mine will actually force and fight for food and seeing as how they are actually catching the baby ghost shrimp they aren't slow at eating...

Oh so I would really only have to worry about them fighting.. which so far seems ok, they pretty much ignore her but she doesnt seem happy anymore either. Probably because she's tired of floating.

I'm trying to find a way to build a divider since no one wants to take me to the petstore again and they wont let me borrow their car.

You can borrow my car since I don't plan to go anywhere lol. You could make a mesh divider or just use some plastic you know hasn't been contaminated

Were going to see what we can find around the house to make one. If we cant she said she'd take me to the hardware store just not the petstore -_- apperently I've been going there to much which I guess is possible.. (was there 2 days ago haha!)

I let her loose in the guppy tank and everything is fine, they ignore eachother pretty much. But it looks like shes trying to swim to spear and spear is trying to swim to her.. its a romatic movie scean! I've never seen bettas act like that before.....

lovely looking girlie you got there, definately don't put her in with your male, she 'should' be fine with the gups as long as she gets enough food and the males don't bother her :good:

Thanks, I couldnt put her down once I saw her :)

Well theres only 1 male in there with 5 females so I dont think he'll be a problem lol I'm hoping maybe I can make one today. But if I do I'm not sure how I'm going to split it with a bubble wand in the middle of the tank.. hmmm

how big is the tank? i have divided my 2nd 60l for one of my bettas, i have gave him a quater then left the other 3 quaters for my wilds :good:

Both tanks are 10 gallons. Still searching to make a divider though.. will be interesting to see how this turns out knowing my mother lol. She will use the strangest things to make something lol!
