Hi,
I might be getting a Dendrochirus zebra- (dwarf zebra lionfish for my spare 30 gal (uk).
I was jsut wondering if anyone had any pointers or advice.
I have already got a 40 gal reef system os have experience in SW.
Can keep anything else with one also (fish or corals etc)

Thanks,

They can be kept with anything that they cant fit into their huge mouths

Keep in mind that although they are a dwarf they can still get to 7"

Make sure you see it eating before you get it

Actually dwarf lions are often kept in tanks as small as 20 gallons. I'm thinking about one for my tank.

That doesn't mean it's right!!!

They get 7 inches!

Them reaching that size is quite rare, and they don't really move much; they spend most of their time sittng in the rockwork. Still, if I didn't have an empty 90 gallon sitting downstairs waiting to be set up I wouldn't even consider it.

They will not get to 7" in a tank.

Reef Fishes Volume 1 recommends a 30 gallon (US) minimum for this fish, so a 30 UK will be more than enough.

As previously pointed out, anything that cannot be eaten will be fine such as some bottom dwelling scorpionfish or the smaller morays.

The important thing with SW preds is to try and over-skim by a factor of 2-3.
