I'm setting up a 130L, this is it:

It's still needing a few caves and it's only inhabitants right now are a lonely Panda Cory and a lonely Kuhli Loach. This is to be amended and its focal point (I imagine who will have GREAT fun tearing up the plants) will be 2 King Tiger Plecos and an L201 Pleco too. Currently in a friends tank at 3". Will also be getting a couple more Corys/Loaches.

ANYWAY, what I need is a mid-top dwelling shoaling fish but my Fluval U4 is pretty darn powerful so it needs to be something that doesn't bother too much with that, and no subtle colours either, need something to bring a bit of POW in terms of colour.

I originally wanted Emperor Tetras or Royal Tetras, but I don't think they like strong currents.

Suggestions? Was thinking maybe Danio kyathit, they look striking in photos, but not so striking in videos on youtube, not seen them in the flesh, at least not that I've remembered. Are they like other more common Danios in the current love?

Don't hold back with species, got a ton of excellent fish shops round my way!

My rummy noses love the current! And are for sale also might I add :good: ;)

How about something like gold barbs, never kept them myself but they seem fairly active at my lfs and are quite striking.

Rummies are more bottom dwelling I've found, I need top dwellers!! Not sure about Gold Barbs, I have seen them but not yet won over by Barbs! Will bear them in mind though.

All the Rummies I've ever seen, been mid-bottom! Yours are just freakish, or you've got something at the bottom that's scaring them upwards.

I think I'm probably going to go with the stunning Furcatus Rainbowfish after reading about. They <3 currents!

African Butterfly Fish or Celebes Halfbeaks?

After seeing 12 (twelve!) different species of Rainbows yesterday at my local Maidenhead Aquatics, I'm now completely revising my community mix, to include many of them. :)

Hatchet fish? I'm not sure if they like currents...

Several of the dwarf rainbow Pseudomugil species look stunning. Furcatus is certainly beautiful :good:

My African Butterfly fish did not really like currents, hung to the quiet corners. My blue danios love current and are mid to upper fish.

Rainbows would be a great choice, the bows, and many other species like strong currents. Be careful of long finned rainbows though, threadfins do fine with currents, but my Gertrudae like it on the calm side You can mix rainbows, you just have to be careful about it. As long as you don't keep two species with the same genus name together they should not interbreed. Furcata, boesemani, and threadfins would make a nice mix and be ok. Neon rainbows and boesemani would be a bad mix.

My rummies are mid-bottom as well. My caecilians are on the bottom as well, so yours must be weird.

My emperor tetras to fine in a good current.

my hatchets loved the current from my filter, they were constantly swimming against it. but they aren't very colourful or long lived. i don't think i'd buy them again.

cheers :good:
