Male or female?

Hi all, I have a new lovely little Betta. They were mislabeled as a male yellow halfmoon at the store, and for the life of me I cannot tell if they are male or female. Any ideas? I don't see an egg spot, but I've never had a short finned male although I know they exist. Any help would be appreciated!

It looks like a female to me but I’m not very good at this kind of thing! ?

Can you get the betta to flare by showing it its refection in a mirror? If you can, look at the gills. If they stick out only at the sides, it's female. If they stick out at the sides and under the head like a beard, it's a male.
