Sometimes I wonder if the human race has somehow outdone themselves with all the new inventions....seem to make a lot of problems, although it makes our lives a little easier temporarily

Part of the problem is that (certainly in the UK) alot of the pipework is Victorian iron pipe. I've worked for a couple of UK water companies and both are carrying out extensive mains replacement to get rid of it (in exchange for a plastic version thats easier to repair and doesn't rust,) but you're talking about literally thousands of miles of pipework to be replaced. I'd be surprised if it happens in our lifetimes.
