Lowering Temperature

Oh, also, Kizz - have you double checked that you hadn't unplugged the filter instead of the thermostat? Easy mistake if the wires have got a bit tangled up... you wouldn't want your filter to be off. If the thermo was unplugged the light couldn't have come on!

yeah well i kinda made that mistake just before i left !

Hit the wrong switch on extention cable and turned filter off turned it bakc on and now it won't work !!! Lef tit on while i wa sout hoping it would kick back in itself but no avail ! So going to have to disconnect it all and see what the #### is wrong with it !!

Turned heater down before i left but temp still pretty much the same

Will update once i finish being up to my armpits in water :D

Oh no, that sometimes does happen though. Just give the filter a little shake and that usually gets the little fan going again inside.

Are all the fish still ok, though?

Did you try the suggestion someone made about turning the thermostat switch all the way in one direction and seeing if the light comes on - if it does, turn the dial all the way in the other direction until the light goes out - that will then mean you are at the lowest setting on the dial. That way you'll have an idea of which is high and which is low direction.

Athena

Yeah fish are all still cool thank god

Had images of coming home to a total wipe out ! But all ae ok justa lot fo #### floating in tank :S

Turned it all the way anti-clockwise until light went out so i'm assuming that is the lowest setting temp is now at 77F so dropped 5 since this morning !

Going to give filter a lil shake the now it's a pain in the ass to reach as it's an external on and sits under the tank behind shelfs ! lol

I don't think today is my day ! lol

LOL don't give up - I'm sure by the end of tonight you'll have it all sorted. Hope you manage to get the filter working again soon!

Glad you seem to have sorted the thermostat out. You should have a better idea by tomorrow of whether that setting is too low or not.

At least you can keep your windows closed now

Off home soon so will say nite nite - Athena

yeah just hope to god i can get filter working

My granda said something about restarting it manually ?

anyone have any idea on how to do this

It's an eheim not to sure on the model number tho will it tell me somewhere on the filter ?

and can anyone help me getting it started again tried sucking on the pipe that the water runs back into the tank but no avail the pipe that sooks up the water doesn't seem to be sookin anything up

Any ideas anyone ?

yeah if it's an external filter then it needs to be primed

it may have some sort of button/pump/lever on it somewhere which you press or pump and it'll start up, alternatively you just need to get the siphon going through so get the input and pour water into it from the tank, keep pouring water in until it's all full of water and will start to flow through then the filter should start again.

Well i had a look at the filter myself before Bf came home from work

Everything did look ok so put it all back together put tubes back into it turned it on and her it worked stood up all water was running fine ...Then i took a step back and heard a squelching noise looked down and there was water EVERYWHERE !!!

one of the clips on the side of the filter to hold the lid/Motor part wasn't clipped properly and i lost about 2 inche's of water in the space of minutes ! :o

So turned everything off cleaned up the water took it all back out again fixed it and it worked ...Then it stopped again !

Bf looked at it when he came up he actually took teh lid bit apart to look at the motor ...It was absolutely roasting

Turns out that because we don't have the correct drop pipe (the hose that sits in the tank sucking up the water) the filters been working harder to clean the tank

What we had on it was a blue bit of pipe with a small circular piece of filter sponge on the bottom to stop the fish getting sooked up the pipe

Does anyone know where i can get one of these pipes my granddad says he should have it in the loft if i wanna go up n look but i'm petrified of heights so thats a no go

The filter is an Eheim 2226

Oh and heater is working great Thank you so much Athena & Miss Wiggle temp is now sitting at 25C :D will still keep an eye on it as temp on heater is sitting between 68-71F so if it drops lower i'll have to have a wee play around with it again

Again many thanks to those who helped can anyone help with the pipe for the filter ? lol

You'll easily get a replacement part but it may take a few days, either go to an LFS that stocks the same make or filter and they will be able to order in the part for you from the suppliers or if you look online you should be able to find a part list with details and then order from an on-line company.

all this will take a week or two though so you may find that you need to stick it back together with the bodge, remmeber while the filter is down keep monitoring levels of ammonia and nitrite and do water changes as appropriate to keep them both at 0.
