hi all, ive finally got my tank cycled :good: after about a month.
my ph is now really low.
Ive recently added some stones from the beach, which i did the vinegar test on, and they seemed fine.

anyway ive removed them again abd my question is this
will the ph naturally rise again or do i have to intervene.

i lost my plec this morning because of this,
which is sickening as ive spent a month doing daily water changes to save my fish after the rookie mistake of overstocking an uncycled tank.
any advice much appreciated as always

i am no pro but if it was me i would do a water change to try and bring the ph up dont change to much in case of a massive ph rise

What is your tap water pH?

You may need to consider getting a GH/KH kit so that you'll understand the mineral makeup of the water more, but that decision can wait until the members discuss your situation more.

forgot to mention, i also had piece of driftwood in. but only for twelve hours as i took it out with my dead pleco this morning.
i only added the wood as plecos r supposed to love it.
thats prob what killed him

Do you have a liquid-reagent based pH test kit and if so what is the -numerical- test result for the tap water?

Then, likewise, the -numerical- result for the tank water that you feel is low.

Your ph will naturally Lower as it completes the cycle, if anything the shells would Raise the PH. What killed you plec was probobly ammonia poisoning or nitrIte poisoning. There is no way your ph could flux that much overnight to kill a fish unless you or someone added some type of chem. LFS water tests are crap all they tell you is your waters good or your waters bad, im tired of people saying they get it tested at the lfs and thats all they know about their water. ASK QUESTIONS PEOPLE and as far as your driftwood goes it natrually overtime will soften your water slightly AKA lower your ph. it does this by adding tannins to your water which will make it appear as a tan/brownish color. IMO a pleco in a 10 gallon was suicide anyways. . . Lesson learned right?

1st things 1st,
did u even read the post, what shells
i have 25gallon tank not ten
nitrite and ammonia are both 0
my tap water has ph of 7.6
its now 6.2, the only thing i added to the tank was beach driftwood and stones.
the lfs uses the test kit recommended on here.
sooooo
if anyone has any advice id really appreciate the help
however if u want to sound of like the last post i got, then dont bother.
lesson learned right-----
