G'morning fishy-folk..... I think someone's been dropping viagra in the local water here :p --- looks like 2 of my elongatus yellow Usisya's AND my biggest Melo. cyanerhabdos (whom I always thought was male) are loaded with eggs! Man does it look funny! This is the first time my own mbuna are holding.....AND another DOUBLE clutch of Lamp occelatus's in my tang tank are emerging from their shells. Wooohoooo! Can you hear the splisher-splasher of little fins?

Now-- seriously.....
I would like to raise the mbuna fry. Catching them once they have hatched will be impossible (for those who know what my mbuna tank looks like you'll agree).
The holding females are not fully grown fish yet -- it would be stretching it to say they are half the size of fully grown fish. What do people think about stripping a fish so young and having its first reproductive cycle? Is it a concern, or should I leave them alone for the first few clutches of eggs until the females sort of get into the rythm of things?

i would leave them. but i would seperate the females so the males don't too aggressive with them. if you do strip the females, you will need to put the eggs into a tumbler.

Well, provide each occelatus with a few shells so they can choose their favorites (they usually pick the smaller ones) and keep a close eye on the water parameters.... just like any cichlid... and brine shrimp seems to be their most relished food. Aren't they amazing to watch? :hyper:
