Eris the lyretail or longfin whatever she is, gave birth today.
But ALL, except 2 of her fry, were born with curled tails, or simply cannot uncurl, and few of them are just... yellow eggs with eyes.
Do they have any chances of straightening their tails? Or are they doomed? I have a cool peppered fry that seems to be trying his best to stand upright, but he always ends up upside down...
What to do?

It sounds like she's given birth too early and the fry aren't fully formed. They're probably not going to get better, I'm afraid :(

But what could have caused her to give birth too early? She was pretty near the date she should give birth, if not past it actually...
Some of the fry seem to be straightening their tails, but are still not swimming.
I only have 1 orange one and 1 black one with an orange stripe above its head as proper swimming fry. But I wish this peppered one could straighten his tail a bit more, he seems to be trying a lot.
I'll let them live for like 2-3 days and see if they can move enough, then I'll move them to the fry cage.

It's hard to say what could have caused it. Possibly stress? OR high temperatures? It's always worth giving them a few days and seeing how they get on; you never know!

Well, yeah, there were higher temps than when she had her previous birth of 100% healthy fry.
Stress - not so much, Eris is the alpha female. She bullies all other females and the male.
It is also noteworthy that my blood-red hasn't become pregnant in 2 months now. She looks slim the whole time. And my male refuses to mate with any female, and follows the blood-red around like a servant, but will not even court her.

Hi Fishblast. Sorry to hear about your fry. I get the odd platy that's born with a curved tail like you describe and they rarely grow out of it. I too have no idea why it happens.

I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the fry. If you were planning to keep them and they can swim with a bent tail then it doesn't really matter. If you were planning to move them on for sale then it's unlikely any lfs would take them like that and euthanasia may be the kindest option - I've had to do it and it's not an easy thing to do by any means.

Good luck what ever you decide :)

They cannot even swim... they just spin like a top... Most have uncurled themselves, but just sit on the floor of the bowl. As for the eggs with eyes, those will die for sure.
And the only way i can euthanize them is by feeding them to the adults. Got no clove oil, no idea where to get it either, nor would my mom let me use something that supposedly smells like... X_X
Only 2 are healthy out of about 20! And even those might get attacked by my older fry in the net. -.-

Also, they will be kept as pets, whichever proves able to at least swim for the food. But none of these ever took off the floor...
