A few may remember me posing a few weeks ago about getting some new fish - a Severum and a Chocolate Cichlid. When I first put them in my female Nic Elsie went for both of them but really pushed the Severum around but it settled down after a day or two. Well about a week and a bit after getting them and they had settled in the new Severum started throwing her weight around more so than any other fish and was taking on everything. One Thursday the Severum and Elsie were lip locking really badly after a while I was about to separate them but there was a loud pop and Elsie was coiled up on her side gasping but not dead.
I separated her imediatly into the only other tank I had which was a 10 gallon tank where she gradually got upright again but it was obvious she had lost the use of one side and her back end. She couldnt swim properly but she was alive. The Severum was taken to a shop later on.
In some kind of hope I started trying to work out how I could get a 30 or so gallon tank for her and just deal with her needs as and when it arose.
She was in the 10g for about a week and I tried her in the 6 foot tank but she could not cope with the current at all and after a day and a half I put her back in the small tank and she has been there for a week now but this morning it was just obvious she was in a bad way and a few nights previous I had bought some Clove Oil just in case I needed it.
So about an hour ago I separated her into a bucket and added a lethal dose of Clove Oil to her and just leaving her to it now.
So there we go....
She would have been with me for 2 years in a few days. And was my favorite fish by far.
A few pics starting with oldest ones first - some edited some not
She was about 8 inches and quite thick and one of the nicest Nics I have ever seen.
RIP Elsie
