looked up at the tank last night and noticed a dead cardinal, dont think it had been dead long but the other fish were nipping it. tested the water and ammonia and nitrite were 0. nitrates tested as 10.

the fish in question has been in there 3 weeks and the others i put in with it are fine.

i had done a 30% water change a few hours previous and cleaned the filter out with tank water but all the other fish are ok.

any ideas?

Is that your tank in your post? Nice looking setup. Sometimes you just get a fish that has issues and dies, and it might not be anything you did. If you continue to lose fish, then there is probably something wrong in the tank environment.

yeah thats my first ever tank, have entered tank of the month but the others are amazing!

it would appear another one has gone except there are no remains of this one it has disappeared

just tested the water and it appears the ammonia is .25

think its from overdoing the blood worms on monday. i didnt feed yesterday but fed flake today.

all other fish appear to be acting normal

You have to be pretty careful to make bloodworms perhaps a smaller treat, they can block up a fish's gut.

I agree with GVG though, individual fish do sometimes have a problem and die and you never know what it was. This is even more true with fish that are small and naturally live in huge schools, their evolution is tilted toward survival of numbers, perhaps leaving some of their individual survival mechanisms less developed.

i did a 10% water change and will not feed them today.

will test tomorrow and see what level the ammonia is.
