hi all,
i have had my tank for a year now and all has been going well in my cycled tank, unfortunately i have lost a few fish over the past weekand am afraid of losing any more!!. I have done another water change today and cleaned the blue and green sponges in tank water. I have a bottle of Nutrafin cycle should i put some in the tank, not sure how many drops to put into my 63 litr tank.I will have to test the water now too
help much appreciated.

I wouldn't bother with the Nutrafin, it doesn't do any good, have you tested your water with a proper test kit, the fish that died could have died from illness or an Ammonia spike, but carry on changing the water and forget the Nutrafin stuff.

What Col said and also never clean your filter media unless it's clogged with debris, and even then just rinse it in used tank water otherwise you'll lose all your bacteria ;).

hi CoIR,
thanks i will leave using the nutrafin, i have teted the water with my Ati ammonia kit and it seems ok but will do another water change tomorrow, I have some Supa tonic salts which i tried before, should i add some to the water?, just worried that my emporer tetra is swimming on its side and has a couple of spots on it so im afraid of things spreading to the other fish, should i remove this fish from the tank?
many thanks.

What kind of fish are they? Did they have any symptoms, sores etc?

If they were guppies, platies or similar it is possible that it could be old age if you've had them since the set up and they were adults when bought.

thanks, i have lost a red tailed loach and otto cat in the past week, now the emporer tetra is on its last legs. These are fish that i have had for around 4-6 months and i do regular water changes every 10-12 days

When you say spots, are they small, white dots, or something bigger/different to that?

i noticed 2 large white spots on the emporer has since sadly died though all the other fish are lively and look healthy
