Hey folks...

As some may know, and others may not, my main tank at home will be getting a makeover.  My stock has aged and the vast majority of my shoalers have moved on to a new home...

My tank:  56 gallon column style Marineland.  30 inches long, 18 inches wide, 24 inches tall.
Water parameters:  pH sits around 6.6, nitrates sit around 10-20ppm after a weekly water change, water is moderately soft. kH - 3 degrees, gH - 7 degrees.

Current stock:
1 BN pleco - roughly 4-5 years old.
1 Bolivian Ram - roughly 2 years old
1 HY511 tetra
1 cherry barb
2 male platies
1 ghost shrimp

The current stock will remain in their current home until they graduate to a new home with their former shoal mates.

The bottom of the tank will be home to a nice big shoal of 10 orange laser cories, eventually.  (Substrate will be ceramaquartz, a fine black sand-like material.

So, my mid-top levels don't really have much direction at the current time.  I am considering Trigonostigma espei or hengeli.  But, haven't decided yet.   The tank will be moderately planted with low light, easy to grow plants.

Cast your votes folks... fill my tank!!!

As an update, I am seriously considering an angelfish for the tank, so keep that in mind as you consider the shoalers... they must be compatible with the angel.

I love my rummies.great schooling fish.

my harlequins in that link are in with 2 angelfish - all is well :)

the lambchop fish, harlequin rasbora, is a good schooling fish  and  stays mainly in the middle of the tank, although at times they go to the top of the tank.  They grow to about 2 inches and should get along with an Angel just fine.   I have 10 of them in my 35 gallon tall hex tank.

Nice suggestions so far. (Please, keep them coming!) The color morph on the harlys are interesting... I've only kept the 'normal' ones in the past, but they are lovely fish.

Never kept rummies... but have considered them in the past.

I would be worried about the T. espei with the angel... though the lambchops are at the top of my list otherwise.

the purple rasboras I have are some kind of hybrid I think but they seem to keep cropping up. I had them specially ordered in but the lfs didn't have too much of a struggle to get them. I like the standard 'lamp chop' type but the purples are just that little bit different and I like different :)

Rainbows would be too big for an angel to eat, I just dont know what types of rainbow you can get over where you are. Low light will usually also make the rainbows darker along with tannins in the water.
